Women's Tour De Yorkshire
The Women's Tour de Yorkshire is a women's road cycling race in Yorkshire, England. From 2015 to 2017, the event was a one-day race. From 2018 onwards, the event has been a two-day event, with a UCI race classification of 2.1. The event is the female equivalent of the Tour de Yorkshire. History The first Women's Tour de Yorkshire was run in 2015. The course consisted of four laps of a course, and was won by Britain's Louise Mahé. The 2016 event was run on the same course as a stage of the men's event, from Otley to Doncaster. The event had a prize fund of £15,000, and was broadcast live on ITV. The race was won by Dutch rider Kirsten Wild in a bunch sprint, after the breakaway was caught with to go. The 2017 event was run on the same course as the second stage of the men's race on 29 April. In a road bicycle race, the peloton (from French, originally meaning 'platoon') is the main group or pack of riders. Riders in a group save energy by riding close ( drafting or slipstreaming) to (particularly behind) other riders. The reduction in drag is dramatic; riding in the middle of a well-developed group, drag can be reduced to as little as 5%–10%. Exploitation of this potential energy saving leads to complex cooperative and competitive interactions between riders and teams in race tactics. History In 1995 Australian Bill Mitchell, a keen cyclist and professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, created the website titled "Bill’s Cycling Racing Results and News" after finding there was a need for fast-breaking news and race results in English-speaking countries. In 1999 Sydney-based publishing company Knapp Communications purchased the website from Mitchell, and in July 2007 they sold it to British publisher Future plc for £2.2m. 2019 Tour De Yorkshire
The 2019 Tour de Yorkshire was a four-day cycling stage race held in Yorkshire over 2–5 May 2019. It was the fifth edition of the Tour de Yorkshire, organised by Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation. The race was rated as a 2.HC event as part of the UCI Europe Tour. The race started in Doncaster on 2 May and finished in Leeds on the 5 May. It was broadcast on ITV. Route In December 2018, the stages were announced, coupled with names, and the final stage of Halifax to Leeds being named ''The Yorkshire Classic''. The Halifax to Leeds race was also the final stage in the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire and at the launch event, Sir Gary Verity revealed that this stage would be repeated as the final stage in each future iteration of the TdY, with a minor tweak or two. The 2019 Women's Tour de Yorkshire was a two day cycling stage race staged in Yorkshire over 3 and 4 May 2019. It was the fourth edition of the Women's Tour de Yorkshire, organised by Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation. It was the second time the race was organised as a stage race. For the first time, the race was live broadcast in full on ITV4 in 2019. Ilkley is a spa town and civil parish in the City of Bradford in West Yorkshire, in Northern England. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire.
