Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game
The WPS All-Star Game was founded in Women's Professional Soccer, the league's 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season, inaugural season, originally modeled after the MLS All-Star Game, where the WPS All-Star team play against a club team from a level-one league from another country, though this changed as of the second year to feature two teams of WPS All-Star players. WPS All-Stars are chosen either by being voted on to the starting eleven(s), or by being selected by the league. Voting is equally weighted between fans, media, players, and coaches (25% each), while the 'at-large' selections are chosen by the WPS Commissioner, currently Anne-Marie Eileraas. WPS All-Star 2010
The 2010 Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game was the second WPS All-Star Game, taking place on June 30, 2010. Thirty-six players were divided into two teams with the top US vote-getter (Abby Wambach) and the top international vote-getter (Marta) as captains. Marta's XI defeated Abby's XI by five to two. Atlanta Beat named host WPS awarded the 2010 All-Star Game to Atlanta, Georgia in a press release on March 22, 2010. The venue was KSU Soccer Stadium, home of the Atlanta Beat. Mary Abigail Wambach (born June 2, 1980) is an American retired soccer player, coach, and member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Kennesaw, Georgia
Kennesaw is a suburban city northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County, Georgia, United States, located within the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. Known from its original settlement in the 1830s until 1887 as Big Shanty, it became Kennesaw under its 1887 charter. Fifth Third Bank Stadium, known as Kennesaw State University Stadium until 2013, is a stadium near Kennesaw, Georgia, that is primarily used as the home for the Kennesaw State Owls football team as well as the KSU women's soccer and women's lacrosse teams. Fenton is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States, and a suburb of St. Louis. The population was 4,022 at the 2010 census. History Due to its proximity to fertile land and the Meramec River, the Fenton area has been inhabited for over 900 years. The earliest proof of ancient dwellers was excavated from the "Fenton Mounds", two conical earthen burial mounds located near the southwestern border of Fenton. Diagnostic pottery shards from the mounds indicate they date from the Mississippian times, A.D. 1050 - 1400. The 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup was the sixth FIFA Women's World Cup competition, the world championship for women's national association football teams. It was held from 26 June to 17 July 2011 in Germany, which won the right to host the event in October 2007.
