WPS All-Star 2009
The 2009 Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game was the first Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game, WPS All-Star Game. In a format similar to that of recent Major League Soccer All-Star Game, all-star games in Major League Soccer, the WPS All-Stars played Damallsvenskan, Swedish club powerhouse Umeå IK on August 30, 2009, eight days after the league's 2009 Women's Professional Soccer Playoffs, championship game. The WPS All-Stars defeated their guests 4–2. Saint Louis Athletica named host WPS awarded the 2009 All-Star Game to St. Louis, Missouri in a press release on June 25, 2009. Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game
The WPS All-Star Game was founded in Women's Professional Soccer, the league's 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season, inaugural season, originally modeled after the MLS All-Star Game, where the WPS All-Star team play against a club team from a level-one league from another country, though this changed as of the second year to feature two teams of WPS All-Star players. WPS All-Stars are chosen either by being voted on to the starting eleven(s), or by being selected by the league. Voting is equally weighted between fans, media, players, and coaches (25% each), while the 'at-large' selections are chosen by the WPS Commissioner, currently Anne-Marie Eileraas. The 2009 UEFA Women's Championship, or just Women's Euro 2009, was played in Finland between 23 August and 10 September 2009. The host was appointed on 11 July 2006, in a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Berlin and the Finnish proposal won over the Dutch proposal. The UEFA Women's Championship is a regular tournament involving European national teams from countries affiliated to UEFA, the European governing body, who have qualified for the competition. The competition aims to determine which national women's team is the best in Europe. The 2009 tournament was won by Germany for a seventh time in ten events. Aya Miyama
is a Japanese former footballer who played for the Japan national team starting in 2003, and from 2012 to 2016 served as captain of the team. She appeared in four World Cups between 2003 and 2015, including the team that won the 2011 World Cup for Japan. Miyama also led Japan to a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Megan Anna Rapinoe (; born July 5, 1985) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a winger and captains OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), as well as the United States national team. Brittany Michelle Klein (born October 29, 1986) is an American soccer midfielder. Klein is a former member of the United States women's national under-23 soccer team and a WPS All-Star in 2009. Playing career Youth Club Klein played for Laguna Hills Eclipse. Her team won the United States Youth Soccer Association National Championship in 2002 and 2005, and they were State Cup semi-finalist in 2003. Catherine Reddick Whitehill (born Catherine Anne Reddick; February 10, 1982) is an American retired professional soccer defender, who was also an assistant coach of the Boston Breakers in the NWSL.
