Women's Belgian Hockey League
The Women's Belgian Hockey League is the top women's league competition for field hockey clubs in Belgium. The league is played since the 1921–22 season. Gantoise are the most recent champions having won their fifth title in the 2022–23 season. Format The season usually starts in September and ends around the end of April or the beginning of May. From the 2021–22 season onwards the league is played by twelve teams who play each other twice and who compete for four spots in the championship play-offs. The number one and four and the number two and three play each other in the semi-final and the winners qualify for the final where the winner will be crowned champion. The last two teams are relegated to the National 1 and the tenth placed team plays a relegation play-off against the third-placed team in the second division. Royal Belgian Hockey Association
The Royal Belgian Hockey Association ( nl, Koninklijke Belgische Hockey Bond; french: Association Royale Belge de Hockey) is the governing body for the game of (field) hockey in Belgium. It was formed in 1907 and as of 2014 it is presided by Marc Coudron. Since 2012, the association has two affiliated branches that entirely govern the sport at regional level; these are the Vlaamse Hockey League (Dutch-speaking) and the Ligue Francophone de Hockey (French-speaking). This split was due to the recognition and awarding of subsidies that are in the authority of the Flemish- and French-speaking Communities. As a matter of consequence, only the top division leagues for men and women are still organised at the national level. While the administrative centre lies in Brussels, the National Training Centre is situated in Boom. Edegem
Edegem (, first mentioned as ''Buizegem'' in 1173) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Edegem proper. In 2021, Edegem had a total population of 22,244. The total area is 8.65 km². The old Sint-Antoniuskerk (church of Saint Anthony) is no longer open to the public. It is not sure when it was first built (some sources go back as far as the 16th century). The absence of heavy industry makes Edegem a typical commuter town. Despite its location next to the metropolis of the city of Antwerp, Edegem is not fully urbanized. Heverlee () is a town in Belgium. It is a borough of the city of Leuven. Heverlee is bordered by Herent, Bertem, Oud Heverlee and several other municipalities that are part of Leuven (including Leuven proper and Kessel-Lo). The town is the location of the Heverlee War Cemetery for Commonwealth casualties from the Second World War. Brasschaat
Brasschaat () is a municipality located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Brasschaat proper. In November 2006, Brasschaat won the LivCom-Award 2006 for the most livable municipality in the world. History Origins The history of Brasschaat started with Celtic settlements. The Gallic tribe of the Belgae displaced them and were in turn conquered by the Romans, who built a major road in the area.
