Wollishofen
Wollishofen is a neighbourhood in Zürich's district 2 (Zürich), 2nd district. It was formerly a municipality of its own, having been incorporated into Zürich in 1893. The neighbourhood has a population of 15,592 distributed on an area of 5.75 km2. Geography Located between the Sihl, Sihl river and Lake Zurich, it forms the southern boundary of the city on the left bank of the lake. The lake occupies 28.5% (1.64 km2) of the total area of the district. To the south, Wollishofen borders the municipalities of Adliswil and Kilchberg, Zürich, Kilchberg. Zürich Wollishofen Railway Station
Zürich Wollishofen railway station (german: Bahnhof Zürich Wollishofen) is a railway station in the Wollishofen quarter of the Swiss city of Zürich. It is situated close to the western shore of Lake Zurich, and adjacent to the shipyard and pier of the ''Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft'', who operate the principal passenger boat services on the lake. The station is located on the Lake Zürich left bank line, which originally formed part of the Zürich to Lucerne main line, although most main line trains now use the alternative Zimmerberg Base Tunnel routing since it opened in 2003. Wollishofen station is within walking distance to the Rote Fabrik, a cultural centre used as a music venue. A3 Motorway (Switzerland)
The A3 is a motorway in northeast Switzerland, running diagonally from France toward the southeast border, and passing by Zürich on the way. The total length of the A3 motorway spans roughly , but parts of the road share sections of the A1 and A2 motorways. The A3 belongs to the Swiss motorway network. It starts at the border in Basel, where it connects to French motorway A35. From the Wiese Motorway Fork, the route is shared with the A2. At Augst, the motorway splits, with the A2 branching off and the A3 continuing past Rheinfelden and Frick. After the Bözberg tunnel is the Birrfeld Motorway Fork, near Birmenstorf. Rote Fabrik
Rote Fabrik (''Red Factory'') is a former factory in the Wollishofen neighbourhood of Zürich, Switzerland. It is now used as a music venue and cultural centre. It is so named because the buildings are made of red brick, but also because left-wing parties were part of the campaign to turn the location into a cultural centre. History The factory The Rote Fabrik was built in 1892 for the Seidenfirma Henneberg company, according to a design by the architect Carl Arnold Séquin-Bronner. In 1899, the Henneberg company was taken over by the Stünzi Söhne Seidenwebereien company, based in Horgen. In 1940, the factory was taken over by the ITT Corporation. In 1972, the city acquired the factory and planned to demolish the building in order to widen the adjacent Seestrasse. Sihl
The Sihl is a Swiss river that rises near the Druesberg mountain in the canton of Schwyz, and eventually flows into the Limmat in the centre of the city of Zürich. It has a length of , including the Sihlsee reservoir, through which the river flows. Water is abstracted from the river at the Sihlsee, leading to decreased downstream water flows and a consequent reduction in water quality. The river flows through, or along the border of, the cantons of Schwyz, Zürich and Zug. The main settlements of the Sihl Valley are all in the canton of Zürich, and include the towns of Langnau am Albis and Adliswil, along with a south-western segment of the city of Zürich. Adliswil is a town and a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. The official language of Adliswil is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect. Zürcher Theater Spektakel
The Zürcher Theater Spektakel (''Zürich Theatre Spectacle'') is an international theatre and performing arts festival, held annually each summer in Zürich, Switzerland. First held in 1980, the festival invites 20-25 different performing arts groups and artists from around the world to take part each year. The event began in a much smaller form as an annual international meeting of independent theatre groups, before emerging as a much larger cultural event in Switzerland. Currently, five separate locations are used as venues for the festival, of which the largest is the ''Landiwiese'' venue. The S12 is a regional railway line of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network. The S12 is one of the network's lines connecting the cantons of Zürich, Aargau, Schaffhausen, Thurgau and St. Gallen. Route * Line S12 commences at Brugg station, in the canton of Aargau, and follows the Zürich–Baden railway as far as Zürich Hardbrücke station and the approaches to Zürich Hauptbahnhof station. Passing through the lower level platforms at this station, the line then passes through the Hirschengraben and Zürichberg tunnels, and Stettbach station, before joining the Zürich to Winterthur line.
