Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre
The Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (WBIC) is a UK Biomedical Imaging Centre, located at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, England, on the Cambridge Bio-Medical Campus at the southwestern end of Hills Road. It is a division of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences of the University of Cambridge. The Centre opened in 1996 with a GE PET scanner, followed soon after by a Bruker 3T MRI system. After a major programme of infrastructure investment and redevelopment, funded by the Medical Research Council and the University of Cambridge. The facilities now comprise a Siemens 7T Terra MRI scanner, a Siemens 3T PrismaFit scanner, a Siemens 3T SkyraFit scanner, a GE 3T PET/MR Signa scanner and a hyper-polariser system. Addenbrooke's Hospital is an internationally renowned large teaching hospital and research centre in Cambridge, England, with strong affiliations to the University of Cambridge. Addenbrooke's Hospital is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The hospital is run by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a designated academic health science centre. PET-MRI
Positron emission tomography–magnetic resonance imaging (PET–MRI) is a hybrid imaging technology that incorporates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) soft tissue morphological imaging and positron emission tomography (PET) functional imaging. The combination of PET and MRI was mentioned in a 1991 Phd thesis by R. Raylman. Simultaneous PET/MR detection was first demonstrated in 1997, however it took another 13 years, and new detector technologies, for clinical systems to become commercially available. Applications Presently, the main clinical fields of PET-MRI are oncology, cardiology, neurology, and neuroscience. Franklin Imo Aigbirhio, (born 2 January 1962) is a Nigerian-born British chemist and academic specialising in biomedical imaging research. Since 2014 he has been the Professor of Molecular Imaging Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. Early life and education Aigbirhio was born 2 January 1962 to Samuel Aigbirhio and Victoria Aigbirhio in Benin City, Nigeria. He came to United Kingdom in 1968 and was educated at Heaton Comprehensive School in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in chemical sciences at the University of East Anglia in 1984. Edward Thomas Bullmore, (born 27 September 1960) is a British Neuropsychiatrist, neuroscientist and academic. Since 1999, he has been Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge. In 2005, he also became Vice-President of Experimental Medicine at GlaxoSmithKline while maintaining his post at University of Cambridge.
