Wok With Yan
''Wok with Yan'' was a Chinese cuisine cooking show starring Stephen Yan. The show was first produced in Vancouver, British Columbia by CTV Television Network, CTV affiliate CHAN-DT in the late 1970s, before moving to CBC Television, CBC in 1980 (but shot at CJOH) and continuing there until 1982. The show then moved into syndication, running until 1995 in that format. Later sources have occasionally confused the show with ''Yan Can Cook'', an American series hosted by Martin Yan which also aired during the 1980s.Louise Leger, "TV chefs whip up entertainment as they tempt the palate". Yan Can Cook
''Yan Can Cook'' is a Chinese oriented cooking show starring Chef Martin Yan that featured recipes for stir fried foods and an assortment of various other traditional Chinese meals and cooking techniques. The series first aired in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (CFAC-TV) in 1978 and later in San Francisco, California, United States in 1982 on PBS (KQED). Yan also wrote several cookbooks which serve as companions to these various television series. Running Gag
A running gag, or running joke, is a literary device that takes the form of an amusing joke or a comical reference and appears repeatedly throughout a work of literature or other form of storytelling. Though they are similar, catchphrases are not considered to be running gags. Running gags can begin with an instance of unintentional humor that is repeated in variations as the joke grows familiar and audiences anticipate reappearances of the gag. Martin Yan
Martin Yan (; born 22 December 1948) is a Hong Kong chef and food writer. He has hosted his award-winning PBS-TV cooking show ''Yan Can Cook'' since 1982. Early years and education With ancestral roots in Taishan, Yan was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China to a restaurateur father and a grocer mother. Yan began to cook at the age of 12. When he was 13, he moved to Hong Kong, where he attended the Munsang College in Kowloon Tsai. During this time in Munsang College, he worked at his uncle's Chinese restaurant and learned the traditional method of Chinese barbecue. He received a diploma from the Overseas Institute of Cookery of Hong Kong and later left for Canada for continued study. Ten years after his arrival in North America, Yan received a Master of Science degree in food science from University of California, Davis, in 1975.
