Wojtek Smarzowski
Wojciech Smarzowski (born 18 January 1963 in Korczyna near Krosno) is a Polish screenwriter and director. He studied filmmaking at the Jagiellonian University and the National Film School in Łódź (1990). His 2004 film, '' The Wedding'' (not to be confused with the Andrzej Wajda film of the same title) earned special jury mention at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2005. He began his film career as a video camera operator. Smarzowski’s film '' Róża'' gained the Polish Film Award in seven categories in 2011. His film '' Traffic Department'' (2013) tells the story of seven policemen from Warsaw - colleagues and good friends whose lives change after one of them dies in mysterious circumstances. It competed in the main competition section of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival. Korczyna, Podkarpackie Voivodeship
Korczyna is a village in Krosno County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in south-eastern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Korczyna. It lies approximately north-east of Krosno and south of the regional capital Rzeszów. The village has a population of 6,000. ''Rose'' ( pl, Róża) is a 2011 Polish film directed by Wojciech Smarzowski. It depicts the love story of a Masurian woman and an officer of the Armia Krajowa in postwar Masuria. Plot In summer 1945 Tadeusz, an officer of the Armia Krajowa and veteran of the Warsaw uprising, whose wife was raped and murdered by the Germans, moves to Masuria, a region in former German East Prussia, which became part of Poland as a result of the Potsdam Agreement after World War II. He visits Róża, a widow of a German Wehrmacht soldier whose death Tadeusz had witnessed, to hand over her husband’s possessions. Róża invites Tadeusz to stay at her farm to protect her against marauders and the brutal rapes she had previously experienced during the Soviet East Prussian Offensive and in the lawless atmosphere of postwar Masuria. ''Na Wspólnej'' (, "On Wspólna Street") is a Polish television soap opera. It has been running since 2003 on the TVN channel as its flagship primetime weekday soap opera. It is loosely based on the German production ''Unter uns'' and it follows the lives of the inhabitants of an apartment block in Wspólna Street, Warsaw.
