Wognum
Wognum () is a former municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Wognum received City rights in the Netherlands, city rights in 1392 but lost them in 1426. In 2007 it merged with the municipalities of Medemblik and Noorder-Koggenland into the surviving municipality of Medemblik. Population centres The former municipality of Wognum consisted of the following cities, towns, villages and/or districts: Nibbixwoud, Wognum, Zwaagdijk-West, and the hamlet of Wijzend. History Wognum is an ancient place. The place was formed around 900, which is confirmed by archaeological finds. In addition, there seems to be proof, that the area was already inhabited around the Bronze Age. Hand axes and arrowheads from that period were found in the area between the current streets of Oosterwijzend and Dorpsstraat in Wognum. Medemblik
Medemblik () is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West-Frisia. It lies immediately south of the polder and former municipality of Wieringermeer. History Medemblik was a prosperous trading town, when in 1282, Floris V, Count of Holland, successfully invaded West Friesland. He built several fortresses to control the region, one of which was Kasteel Radboud in Medemblik, and awarded Medemblik city rights in 1289. Nibbixwoud
Nibbixwoud is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Medemblik, and lies about 5 km north of Hoorn. History The village was first mentioned around 1312 as Nuweboxwoude, and means "the new forest of Bok (person)". New was added to distinguish from Oudeboxwoude which is nowadays called Hauwert. Nibbixwoud developed in the 11th century as a peat excavation area. The Dutch Reformed church is an aisleless church which was built in 1834 to replace its 14th century predecessor. In 1860, the town hall was constructed in front of the church at a right angle. The church was decommissioned in 1980 and became a cultural centre. The church and town hall have been converted into a single building in 1982. Nibbixwoud was home to 280 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality until 1979, when it was merged with Wognum. Democrats 66 (; abbreviated D66, ) is a social liberal political party in the Netherlands, which positions itself in the centre of the political spectrum. It is a member of the Liberal International (LI) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). The name of the party refers to its year of foundation, 1966. Initially, its main objective had been to democratise the Dutch political system, but it developed a broader social liberal ideology over time. In the 1967 general election, the party won 7 out of 150 seats in the House of Representatives. No new party had ever gained that many seats before. The Christian Democratic Appeal ( nl, Christen-Democratisch Appèl, ; CDA) is a Christian-democratic political party in the Netherlands. It was originally formed in 1977 from a confederation of the Catholic People's Party, the Anti-Revolutionary Party and the Christian Historical Union; it has participated in all but three cabinets since it became a unitary party. Health Minister Hugo de Jonge served as Leader of the Christian Democratic Appeal from July 2020 until his resignation the following December.
