John Burdett Wittenoom
John Burdett Wittenoom (24 October 1788 – 23 January 1855) was a colonial clergyman who was the second Anglican clergyman to perform religious services in the Swan River Colony, Australia, soon after its establishment in 1829. Biography Early life John Burdett Wittenoom was born in England at Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Winchester College and matriculated to Brasenose College, Oxford in 1807, graduating B.A. in 1810, M.A. in 1813. He was ordained deacon in the Church of England in 1811, priest in 1812. Career He took up teaching in England where he was appointed headmaster of Magnus Church of England Academy, Newark Grammar School. Shortly after his first wife's death, he decided to emigrate to Western Australia arriving on the ''Wanstead'' in January 1830 with his mother, sister and four sons. Charles Wittenoom (senior)
Charles Horne Wittenoon (6 December 1879 – 18 September 1969) was an Australian politician. He was a Member of the Western Australian Legislative Council for twelve years. Born in Geraldton, Western Australia on 6 December 1879, he was the son of squatter and station agent Sir Edward Wittenoom, and a nephew of Frank Wittenoom, after whom the town of Wittenoom is named. He was educated at High School (now Hale School) in Perth, then went to England to complete his studies at Malvern College and the Royal School of Mines in London. On returning to Western Australia he became manager of Central and West Boulder Mines at Kalgoorlie. By 1909 he was owner of ''Muralgarra Station'' at Yalgoo. On 9 June 1909 he married Bessie Sholl, daughter of Robert Sholl; they had one son and two daughters. Wittenoom was widowed in October 1919. From the early 1920s he lived in Albany, Western Australia, where he invested in property including several hotels, and became director of WA Woollen ... Sir Edward Horne Wittenoom Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George, KCMG (12 February 1854 – 5 March 1936) was an Australian politician who served intermittently in the Western Australian Legislative Council, Legislative Council of Western Australia between 1883 and 1934, including as President of the Western Australian Legislative Council, President of the Legislative Council from 1922 to 1926. He sat in the Legislative Council from 1883 to 1884, 1885 to 1886, 1894 to 1898, 1902 to 1906, and finally from 1910 to 1934. Wittenoom was a minister in the government of Sir John Forrest, and was also Agent-General for Western Australia between 1898 and 1901.
