Thomas Albert Witcher (born September 28, 1936) is a former American football linebacker who played one season with the Houston Oilers of the American Football League (AFL). He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the thirteenth round of the 1959 NFL Draft. He was also drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 1960 AFL Draft. Witcher played college football at Baylor University and attended Lampasas High School in Lampasas, Texas. Professional career Witcher was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 152nd pick in the 1959 NFL Draft. He was also selected by the Oakland Raiders in the 1960 AFL Draft. Bobby Witcher
Bobby Witcher (1916–1966) was an American herpetologist best known for his carefree handling of venomous snakes. Life Born in Sweetwater, Texas in 1916, he was loved for his contagious enthusiasm for reptiles and amphibians. Bobby collected in the field for many years and freely shared his knowledge of herpetology. Although he never published any articles, many of his discoveries and observations have been included in the works of others. Bobby died in 1966 from a cottonmouth bite in the swamps of the Mingo National Wildlife Refuge in southeastern Missouri. Legacy Bobby's legacy has been established through the Bobby Witcher Society, with chapters throughout the United States, and the Bobby Witcher Memorial Scholarship*, both of which were founded by Drs. Dick Witcher
Dick Vernon Witcher (October 10, 1944February 22, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Witcher was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the eighth round (119th overall) of the 1966 NFL Draft. At , Witcher first played two years at Bakersfield College, then graduated from UCLA. Witcher played in eight NFL seasons from 1966 to 1973 for the 49ers. Witcher was a backup to Dave Parks and Bernie Casey during his rookie season. After Casey was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 1967, Witcher moved into the starting lineup and led the 49ers with 46 receptions. Witcher followed up with 39 receptions in 1968. Witcher started 1969 as a backup to Gene Washington and Clifton McNeil, but by the 6th game he moved back into the starting lineup ahead of McNeil. He ended up with 33 receptions in 1969. Gabriel Witcher (born June 11, 1978) is a Grammy award winning American multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and arranger, best known as a fiddle player and singer. He is a founding member of the string ensemble Punch Brothers. Witcher and his fellow Punch Brothers won the 2019 Grammy for Best Folk Album and were named Affiliate Scholars of Oberlin Conservatory in 2014. History Gabe Witcher began his performing career in 1984, at the age of six, at the Strawberry Music Festival in Yosemite when he was invited on stage by Bill Monroe to perform a duet in front of a workshop crowd. John Seashoal Witcher
John Seashoal Witcher (July 15, 1839 – July 8, 1906) was an American farmer, politician and soldier from Cabell County, West Virginia (then in Virginia), who helped found the new Union state during the American Civil War and served one term in Congress representing West Virginia's 3rd congressional district as a Republican. After losing his re-election, however, he resumed his federal and U.S. Army career. In addition to serving as lieutenant colonel and brevet colonel of the 3rd West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry, Witcher also served a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and as the 3rd Secretary of State of West Virginia. Witcher's Battalion
The 34th Virginia Cavalry Battalion was a cavalry battalion raised in the Appalachian mountain region of southwestern Virginia as well as adjoining areas of what became West Virginia as well as Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina for service in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. It fought in western Virginia, East Tennessee, with the Army of Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. The 1st Battalion, Virginia Mounted Rifles was organized in December, 1861 and was absorbed into Virginia's 34th Cavalry Battalion in December 1862.
