State Trunk Highway 186 (often called Highway 186, STH-186 or WIS 186) is a state highway (US), state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs from its southern terminus at Wisconsin Highway 73, WIS 73 south of Vesper, Wisconsin, Vesper to U.S. Route 10 in Wisconsin, US Highway 10 (US 10) and Wisconsin Highway 13, WIS 13 in Auburndale, Wisconsin, Auburndale. The highway is located entirely within Wood County, Wisconsin, Wood County. Like all Wisconsin state highways, WIS 186 is maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). Vesper, Wisconsin
Vesper is a village in Wood County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 584 at the 2010 census. History The village of Vesper began to form in the early 1870s when Girard and Drake built a sawmill on Hemlock Creek to process lumber from the surrounding forests. Their firm also started a store and blacksmith shop. A post office called Vesper opened in 1878. The village was named after vesper sparrows native to the area. In 1894 a wildfire swept in from the woods and burned the mill, along with 23 houses on the west side of the creek. After the fire, the surrounding stump-land was sold to farmers. The village of Vesper was platted in 1897 or 98. Carsten Otto started a creamery in 1898. In 1902 John Murgatroyd & Sons started the Vesper Brick & Tile Factory, which operated until the start of WWI. A two-room brick school was built in 1906. Auburndale is a village in Wood County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 703 at the 2010 census. History Auburndale was established in 1872 by John Connor and his brother Robert Connor, father of William D. Connor, the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, and named after the auburn hair of the Connor children. Another tradition maintains the name is a transfer from Auburndale, Massachusetts. Auburndale's WLBL (AM) is one of the oldest radio stations in the United States (1923). It was the second station in the Wisconsin Public Radio Network, relaying programs of WHA (AM) Madison for northern Wisconsin listeners. They are still the only two AM stations on the network. State Trunk Highway 73 (often called Highway 73, STH-73 or WIS 73) is a state highway in the central part of the US state of Wisconsin that runs mostly north–south from Ingram to near Edgerton. The exception is in Wood and Adams counties, where this highway runs east–west. It is one of the longer Wisconsin state highways. Route description WIS 73 starts in Dane County at an interchange with Interstate 39 (I-39), I-90 (exit 160), US Highway 51 (US 51) north of the city of Edgerton. State Trunk Highway 13 (often called Highway 13, STH-13 or WIS 13) is a state highway running north–south across northwest and central Wisconsin. WIS 13 serves as a major north–south route connecting the communities of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield and Ashland. WIS 13 is part of the Lake Superior Circle Tour from its northern/western terminus to Ashland at is eastern junction with U.S. Highway 2 (US 2).
