Wisconsin Highway 108
State Trunk Highway 108 (often called Highway 108, STH-108 or WIS 108) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs in west central Wisconsin from Wisconsin Highway 16 north of West Salem to Wisconsin Highway 54 and Wisconsin Highway 71 in Melrose. Highway 108 is maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Route description Highway 108 begins at a junction with Highway 16 in the Town of Hamilton in La Crosse County, just north of the border of West Salem. The highway heads northeast along a brief concurrency with County Highway C, then runs east for a short distance before heading north. From here, the route passes through a rural area and climbs a winding ridge. Past the ridge, Highway 108 continues north, intersecting two county highways and crossing Fleming Creek. West Salem, Wisconsin
West Salem is a village in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States, along the La Crosse River. It is part of the La Crosse-Onalaska, WI-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,799 as of the 2010 Census. History West Salem was platted in 1856. It was named Salem by a Baptist minister named Elder Card because the word meant "peace" in Arabic and Hebrew. The word West was added to the name when mail was confused with another town in the state named Salem. The donation of approximately ten acres of land to a railway company led to the creation of West Salem. A station was built in West Salem on the original Milwaukee and La Crosse Railway which ran to La Crosse. It was later taken over by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway (later becoming the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad). The railway used the land to build a depot and tracks. Origin of the town's name The Town of Hamilton was named by John M. Coburn, after Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. State Trunk Highway 54 (often called Highway 54, STH-54 or WIS 54) is a Wisconsin state highway running east–west across central Wisconsin. It is in length. Route description Minnesota state line to Plover WIS 54 begins at the western terminus. It crosses through the Minnesota state line at Winona, Minnesota via the North Channel Bridge. At this bridge, MN 43 ends there. After crossing the bridge, it soon turns east via WIS 35/Great River Road.
