Wirrabara Range Conservation Park
Wirrabara Range Conservation Park was a protected area located in the Australian state of South Australia in the locality of Wirrabara about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about west of the town of Wirrabara. On 26 November 2021 it became part of the Wapma Thura–Southern Flinders Ranges National Park, along with several other conservation parks. The conservation park occupied crown land in Sections 4, 10 and 19, and Allotment 105 in Deposited Plan 116702 within the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Darling, which was previously gazetted as a native forest reserve under the ''Forestry Act 1950''. On 5 December 2017, the above-mentioned land lost its status as a native forest reserve and was given status as a conservation park under the ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'' by proclamation. Wirrabara, South Australia
Wirrabara is a town and a locality in South Australia, about north of Adelaide. It is located in the Southern Flinders Ranges in the Mid North of South Australia, along the Rocky River. The Horrocks Highway (Main North Road) passes through the town. At the 2016 census, the locality had a population of 403 of which 230 lived in its town centre. History The name Wirrabara derives from a corruption of two words from the Kaurna language of the " Adelaide tribe", ''wirra'' (gum trees) and ''birra'' (running water); in the Nukunu language of the local Nukunu people, ''wira'' and ''parl'' means gum trees with honey and water. A timber milling industry was established in Wirrabara during the early 1850s. The town was surveyed in 1874. Ian Keith Hunter (born 23 September 1960) is an Australian politician, representing the South Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party in the South Australian Legislative Council since the 2006 state election. Hunter served in the Cabinet of South Australia from October 2011 to 2018. Background Hunter grew up in the suburb of Holden Hill in Adelaide's North-East. He was educated at Gilles Plains High School and graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Science (Honours), majoring in Microbiology and Genetics. Throughout university he worked as a Youth Worker at the Child Youth Support Service in Norwood.
