Wire Signal
A wire signal is a brevity code used by telegraphers to save time and cost when sending long messages. The best-known code was the 92 Code adopted by Western Union in 1859. The code was designed to reduce bandwidth consumption over telegraph lines, thus speeding transmissions by utilizing a numerical code system for frequently used phrases. 92 Code Several of the codes are taken from ''The Telegraph Instructor'' by G.M. Train order operation is a system for safely moving trains using train orders, as opposed to fixed signals or cab signalling. In train order operation, a "train order" is an order issued by or through a proper railway official to govern the movement of trains. Train order operation was widely used by the railroads of North America before the days of centralized traffic control (CTC), direct traffic control (DTC), and the use of track warrants conveyed by radio. The system used a set of rules when direct communication between train dispatchers and trains was limited or non-existent. The Young Ladies Radio League (YLRL) is an international non-profit organization of women amateur radio enthusiasts. It was founded in 1939 and is affiliated with the American Radio Relay League. The term "Young Lady" derives from a Morse code abbreviation, YL, that is used to refer to female amateur radio operators, regardless of age. Cleveland, Tuscarawas Valley and Wheeling Railway operated in eastern Ohio and West Virginia from 1875 to 1882. The Lakeshore and Tuscarawas Valley Railway Company organized by filing with the Ohio Secretary of State on July 2, 1870 to build a road from near Berea to Mill Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio where it would interchange with the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and St. Louis Railway, with a branch to Elyria. Morse code abbreviations are used to speed up Morse communications by foreshortening textual words and phrases. The Phillips Code is a brevity code (shorthand) compiled and expanded in 1879 by Walter P.
