Winterfeldts Stiftelse
Winterfeldts Stiftelse is a charitable housing complex located at Klerkegade 25-29 in central Copenhagen, Denmark. History Winterfeldts Stiftelse was established by Jørgen Balthazar Winterfeldt Jørgen Balthazar Winterfeldt (1 October 1732 - 22 July 1821) was a Danish naval officer and philanthropist. He was admiral from 1804 and was awarded the Order of the Elephant in 1811. He established Winterfeldts Stiftelse at Klerkegade 25 in Copen ... in 1805 to provide affordable housing for widows and unmarried women. The first building was located at Hindegade 9 (then Hoppenslænge). The charity was renamed Trøstens Bolig on 8 August 1812. The easternmost part of the building on Klerkegade (13 bays) was built in 1838. The western part of the building (six bays) was built in 1846-1847. Klerkegade
Klerkegade ( lit. "Clergy Street") is a street in central Copenhagen, Denmark. The street runs from Borgergade in the east to Rigensgade in the west, passing Adelgade and Kronprinsessegade on the way. History Klerkegade originates in the 1649 plan for New Copenhagen, the large area which was included in the fortified city when the old East Rampart along present day Gothersgade was decommissioned and a new one was built in a more northerly direction. According to the plan, the streets in the area were to be named after Danish territorial possessions, royalty and the upper classes. The name Klerkegade is thus related to those of Adelgade ("Nobility Street") and Borgergade ("Burges Burges is a surname.
