Black Eyed Man
''Black Eyed Man'' is the fourth studio album by Cowboy Junkies, released in 1992. The album continues the band's evolution from a spare country blues style (exemplified by the 1988 album ''The Trinity Session'') to a more mainstream country rock style. Album development The Cowboy Junkies approach each album looking to see where they can change or improve. With ''Black Eyed Man'' Michael Timmins wanted to explore music structure, specifically time shifts and tempo shifts. Margo wanted to expand her singing style and her range. Michael states "We also wanted to approach each song individually rather than the whole album being one long song. I wanted this one to have different perspectives in each song." Another change the band made was to record the album over several months instead of in one session. They also decided to try using a new mixture of musicians, instruments, and recording personnel. The band concentrated on two or three songs at a time instead of the album as a wh ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Approximately Infinite Universe
''Approximately Infinite Universe'' is a double album by Yoko Ono, released in early 1973 on Apple Records. It represents a departure from the experimental avant garde rock of her first two albums towards a more conventional pop/rock sound, while also dabbling in feminist rock. It peaked at number 193 in the United States. The 1997 CD reissue on Rykodisc added two acoustic demos of songs from this era, that were later released on 1981's '' Season of Glass''. It was released again by Rykodisc in 2007. The album was recorded at The Record Plant in New York City, except for the basic tracks for "Catman" and "Winter Song", which were taped at Butterfly Studios. Ono produced the album with John Lennon, whose participation marked a rare music-related activity for him after the failure of the couple's politically themed 1972 double album ''Some Time in New York City''. Lennon also sang the final verse of the song, "I Want My Love to Rest Tonight." As on the latter album, Ono used the ... Sweet Oblivion
''Sweet Oblivion'' is the sixth studio album by Screaming Trees, released on September 8, 1992. It quickly became the band's best-selling record, and was the closest they ever came to achieving mainstream success. ''Sweet Oblivion'' sold in excess of 300,000 copies on the strength of “ Nearly Lost You”. The band's biggest hit, “Nearly Lost You” benefited from an appearance on '' Singles: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'', a Top Ten, platinum-selling hit album which featured many other popular Seattle-based music acts from the period. Around the time of the recording of the album, the band’s original drummer Mark Pickerel left to pursue other musical interests, and was replaced with Barrett Martin. Nearly four years passed in between ''Sweet Oblivion'' and the band's follow-up album, ''Dust'', a move that hurt much of the band's commercial momentum. The Salvation Blues
''The Salvation Blues'' is the debut solo album by singer/songwriter Mark Olson, released in 2007. Olson's 10-year marriage to Victoria Williams had ended in divorce and he subsequently suffered from depression. He wrote the songs for the album while recovering in Cardiff, Wales. He recorded demos in Wales, Norway, Poland and Minnesota as well. Olson and the making of the album were the subject of a half-hour documentary, ''The Salvation Blues'', released by Grain Pictures. Reception Writing for AllMusic, music critic Thom Jurek praised the Olson's songwriting and wrote "Ultimately, it comes down to the songs, though. And Mark Olson has them here in spades. with the presentation being so utterly simple, a lot of weight rests not only on the singer, but on the lyrics and melody. And Olson delivers, though the often shining optimism of his offerings has been tempered in places by grief, loss, and the workaday living of everyday life that blends dream and reality as time rushes for ... A live version can be found on the group's ''Lindisfarne Live'', recorded in 1971 and released in 1973, and as a bonus track on their third album, '' Dingly Dell''.
