The band consists of Charles F. on vocals, Wurlitzer, organ, Vincent Chalifour on synth bass and keyboards, Patrick Sayers on drums and Nico Ormiston on guitars. History Winter Gloves formed in 2008 in Montreal after Charles F recorded a number of synthpop songs as a break from the guitar rock he had been performing. ''About a Girl'' is an LP album by Canadian indie pop band Winter Gloves. It was released on 24 March 2009 by Paper Bag Records. The album was primarily recorded in lo-fi by Charles F., using only one microphone and a combination of amped and unplugged instruments. Errant noises were intentionally mixed into songs to achieve "a pleasant dirty sound". Most of the songs fit in the second wave synthpop genre popularized in the early 2000s, although reviews correlate the song structures and instrumentation to the later revival of dance-punk and electronic dance music in general. Dear Frederic
Charles F. Huot (born May 13, 1981) is a Montreal-based Canadian producer and songwriter best known by the stage name Dear Frederic. The live band consists of drummer Julien Blais (Coeur de Pirate), multi-instrumentalist Danny Lutz and Huot singing and playing guitar and synth. Debut EP In April 2014, Huot released on Montreal based label Cult Nation his first EP, ''Outlast''. The sound of these five tracks moves away from his former band Winter Gloves' pop-rock sound and explores the '80's synthpop era. For his single "Outlast", the singer partnered up with musician and producer Tim Buron (Tork) and Husser (''The Posterz'') for a remix which is part of a Coke Zero advertisement: ''City of Possibilities''. The ad aired on Mexican television and in a digital version on YouTube. Music from the EP was also used in ''Killjoys''. Born Ruffians are a Canadian indie rock band based in Toronto. Officially founded in 2004 in the Georgian Bay town of Midland, Ontario, the band is composed of frontman Luke Lalonde, bassist Mitch DeRosier, and drummer Steve Hamelin. South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. Osheaga Festival
The Osheaga Music and Arts Festival (french: Festival musique et arts Osheaga) is a multi-day indie music festival in Montreal, Quebec, that is held every summer at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène. The festival takes place on six stages with various audience capacities. Translated from their French equivalents, they are called "River Stage," "Mountain Stage," "Green Stage," "Trees Stage," "Valley Stage," and "Zone Piknic Electronik." Each performance area is paired with a sponsor. Band set times fluctuate based on the status of the performer within the festival. Emerging artists play 30-minute sets, and headliners conclude each day with 90-minute plus sets. The 2006 festival attracted a crowd of around 25,000 people. The Virgin Fest, known as the Virgin Mobile FreeFest in the United States, was a rock festival held in the United States and Canada, a spin-off from the V Festival held in the UK. In North America the Virgin name, and more recently the Virgin Mobile USA brand, were used in full to increase brand association, compared with the UK and Australian festivals, where association is simply implied through the use of the letter V. Thunderheist
Thunderheist was an electronic music duo from Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec in Canada. Thunderheist was made up of producer Graham Bertie (Grahmzilla) and Omolola Isis Salam (Isis). The two began collaborating before they had ever met in person, sending MP3 files to each other over the Internet. They were signed to and released one album on Big Dada. Thunderheist was founded in 2005 by Graham as an anonymous dance music side-project to his more hip-hop leanings as Metrix. They became a duo in August 2006 when Graham inadvertently sent Omolola a remix he was working on for a Spank Rock remix competition and she recorded a rap over it. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock".
