Winter Comes Home
''Winter Comes Home'' is a 1982 live album credited to both David Thomas and his Legs and to 'David Thomas, Lindsay Cooper, Chris Cutler', on which Thomas was supported by Chris Cutler and Lindsay Cooper. ''Trouser Press'' reports that the album "mixes intellectual stand-up comedy with winning performances". The album did not appear in the 1997 anthology ''Monster'', and has not been released on CD. Thomas has pronounced the album to have been officially "disappeared", writing "BTW ''Winter Comes Home'' does not exist. According to the Authorized View, it never did exist and, so, it never will exist. Those who claim to own copies are troublemakers. Report them to the Grocery Police." The album was eventually re-released as a download, sourced from a vinyl copy as "the master tapes were lost long ago". David Thomas (musician)
David Lynn Thomas (born 1953) is an American singer, songwriter and musician based in Great Britain. He was one of the founding members of the short-lived proto-punkers Rocket from the Tombs (1974–1975), in which he played under the moniker "Crocus Behemoth," and of post-punk group Pere Ubu (1975–present, intermittently). He has also released several solo albums. Though primarily a singer, he sometimes plays melodeon, trombone, musette, guitar or other instruments. Thomas has described his artistic focus as being the "gestalt of culture, geography and sound". Common themes crop up throughout much of his work, such as the US Interstate Highway system, images of roadside or "junk" tourist culture, Brian Wilson, AM radio, and many others. Recommended Records (RēR) is a British independent record label and distribution network founded by Chris Cutler with Nick Hobbs in March 1978. RēR features largely "Rock in Opposition" and related music, but it also distributes selected music released on other independent labels. In 1982 Cutler established November Books, the publishing wing of Recommended Records, and between 1985 and 1997, Recommended Records and November Books published ''RēR Quarterly'', a "quarterly" sound-magazine edited by Cutler. In 1989 Recommended Records became known as RēR Megacorp with a turnover of £180,000 in 1994. Vocal Performances
''Vocal Performances'' was a 12" single released by Pere Ubu frontman David Thomas in 1981. The single was released on Rough Trade Records as Trade 5/12. As per its title, ''Vocal Performances'' features two (mostly) a cappella recordings from Thomas. The first track, "Petrified", argues that evolutionary thinking and Latin nomenclature have poorly captured the charm and dignity of dinosaurs such as the Haplocanthosaur, Pterosaur and Archaeopteryx. The second track is "Sloop John B", a cover of the traditional song made famous on ''Pet Sounds'' by the Beach Boys. Thomas has argued elsewhere that ''Pet Sounds'' is the greatest album of music ever recorded. "Petrified" was recorded at Bushflow Studio in Akron, Ohio, and features a clarinet solo by Ralph Carney. ''Variations on a Theme'' is the second studio album by experimental singer-songwriter David Thomas, released in May 1983 by Rough Trade Records. Like its predecessor '' The Sound of the Sand'', ''Variations on a Theme'' features prominent guitar work from Richard Thompson. In 1997, the album was remastered by Paul Hamann and David Thomas for its inclusion in the ''Monster'' anthology box set. It was the only album in the set to be remixed, and its running order was changed. Chris Cutler
Chris Cutler (born 4 January 1947) is an English percussionist, composer, lyricist and music theorist. Best known for his work with English avant-rock group Henry Cow, Cutler was also a member and drummer of other bands, including Art Bears, News from Babel, Pere Ubu and (briefly) Gong/Mothergong. He has collaborated with many musicians and groups, including Fred Frith, Lindsay Cooper, Zeena Parkins, Peter Blegvad, Telectu and The Residents, and has appeared on over 100 recordings. Cutler's career spans over four decades and he still performs actively throughout the world. Cutler created and runs the British independent record label Recommended Records and is the editor of its sound-magazine, ''RēR Quarterly''. Lindsay Cooper
Lindsay Cooper (3 March 1951 – 18 September 2013) was an English bassoon and oboe player and composer. Best known for her work with the band Henry Cow, she was also a member of Comus, National Health, News from Babel and David Thomas and the Pedestrians. She collaborated with a number of musicians, including Chris Cutler and Sally Potter, and co-founded the Feminist Improvising Group. She wrote scores for film and TV and a song cycle ''Oh Moscow'' which was performed live around the world in 1987. She also recorded a number of solo albums, including ''Rags'' (1980), '' The Gold Diggers'' (1983), and ''Music For Other Occasions'' (1986). Trouser Press
''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''. Publication of the magazine ceased in 1984. The unexpired portion of mail subscriptions was completed by ''Rolling Stone'' sister publication ''Record'', which itself folded in 1985. A monster is a type of fictional creature found in horror, fantasy, science fiction, folklore, mythology and religion. Monsters are very often depicted as dangerous and aggressive with a strange, grotesque appearance that causes terror and fear.
