Winston Churchill High School (Wayne County, Michigan)
Churchill High School, named after Winston Churchill, is one of the four main public high schools (and the most recently built) in the city of Livonia, Michigan, a western suburb of Detroit. The school was created in 1968 as an add-on to the other high schools in Livonia in response to the population boom that the city saw at the time. The first school year (1968–69), a sophomore class attended classes at nearby Franklin High School. Beginning in the 1969–70 school year, classes were then held in the new building with a junior and sophomore class. The first graduating class graduated in June 1971. The school is home to the MSC (Math, Science, and Computers) program as well as the Creative and Performing Arts program (CAPA). It also has a wide variety of athletics. The Girls' Cross-Country team finished second in the state of Michigan in 2006, and the Girls' Varsity Volleyball team won the 2007 state championship. The Pulitzer Prizes () are 23 annual awards given by Columbia University in New York City for achievements in the United States in "journalism, arts and letters". They were established in 1917 by the will of Joseph Pulitzer, who had made his fortune as a newspaper publisher. Adam Bedell (born December 1, 1991) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a forward. Career Early career Born in Livonia, Michigan, Bedell played high school soccer at Winston Churchill High School and club soccer with the Michigan Crew Soccer Academy Wolves before attending the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM), where he played for the Detroit Titans. Bedell played in a purely defensive role at center back during his freshman and sophomore years at UDM before transitioning to a more attacking role at center midfield/forward for his junior and senior years. Torey Krug ( ; born April 12, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL). Derek Grant (sometimes known as Derek R. Grant) is an American musician, best known for being the third and longest-serving drummer for punk rock band Alkaline Trio from 2001 to 2023. Ryan James Kesler (born August 31, 1984) is an American former professional ice hockey center. Selected in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Kesler spent the first 10 years of his National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Canucks after which he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in 2014 with whom he spent the rest of his career.
