Winsor is a settlement in the municipality of New-Wes-Valley in Newfoundland and Labrador. Winsor Family The community is named for the John Winsor (1759-1822) who first settled in nearby Swain's Island in 1810. Newfoundland and Labrador (; french: Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador; frequently abbreviated as NL) is the easternmost province of Canada, in the country's Atlantic region. The province comprises the island of Newfoundland and the continental region of Labrador, having a total size of 405,212 square kilometres (156,500 sq mi). New-Wes-Valley
New-Wes-Valley is a municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Incorporated in 1992, it is located at the Northern end of Bonavista Bay just south of Cape Freels. New-Wes-Valley takes its name from the towns of Newtown, Wesleyville, and Valleyfield. The municipality was formed by the combination of eight original villages: Newtown, Templeman, Pound Cove, Wesleyville, Brookfield, Badger's Quay, Pool's Island and Valleyfield, which all adjoin each other along a 15 km stretch of coastline containing many harbours, coves and islands. The terrain of the area is barren, rocky and relatively flat in comparison with much of the province. Today, the eight villages retain much of their own identity, with the municipality still containing as many as twelve churches. Swain's Island (Newfoundland And Labrador)
Swain's Island, Newfoundland, is actually a group of eight islands on the north side of Bonavista Bay, southeast of Wesleyville. All of these islands once had inhabitants but eventually all of them were resettled, mostly to Wesleyville. History The earliest parts of Swain's Island to be settled were the Outer Swain's Islands, which were close to good fishing grounds and provided excellent shelter for vessels. The first settlers were two Englishmen, William Tiller and John Winsor, who arrived in 1810. Other families soon followed, including the Brentons, Mulletts, Stockleys, Dykes, and Hills. By 1836, the islands had 85 inhabitants among them, and a Church of England school-chapel had been built on one of them — Hill's Island. Bonavista Bay
Bonavista Bay (BB) is a large bay located on the northeast coast of the island of Newfoundland (island), Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. It opens directly onto the Atlantic Ocean. The bay is demarcated by Cape Freels to the north and Cape Bonavista to the south. Cape Bonavista is also the eastern limit of the Bonavista Peninsula, which forms the bay's southern shore. The topography of the central western shore of the bay is composed of numerous channels and islands. This area also hosts Terra Nova National Park. Containing many densely forested islands, Bonavista Bay is virtually landlocked. With temperatures sometimes reaching -1 °C, it attracts the occasional iceberg. However, due to the dense forestry, the region inside the bay can sometimes be warm enough for lobster cultivation. Bonavista North was a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It existed from when Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949 until 2015. As of 2011 the district had 6,956 eligible voters. When it was abolished in 2015, it contained the communities of: Trinity, Centreville, Wareham, Indian Bay, Greenspond, Valleyfield, Badger's Quay, Pool's Island, Brookfield, Wesleyville, Pound Cove, Templeman, Newtown, Cape Freels, Lumsden, Deadman's Bay, Musgrave Harbour, Ladle Cove, Aspen Cove, Carmanville, Noggin Cove, Frederickton, Davidsville, Main Point, Gander Bay South, Clarke's Head, Victoria Cove, and Wing's Point.
