Winnipeg South Centre (french: Winnipeg-Centre-Sud) is a federal electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1979 and since 1988. Geography The district includes the neighbourhoods of Beaumont, Brockville, Buffalo, Chevrier, Crescent Park, Crescentwood, Earl Grey, Eby-Wentworth, Edgeland, Fort Garry, Grant Park, J. B. Mitchell, Linden Woods, Lord Roberts, Mathers, Maybank, McMillan, Osborne Village, Parker, Pembina Strip, Point Road, River Heights, Riverview, Rockwood, Roslyn, Sir John Franklin, Tuxedo, Wellington Crescent and Wildwood in the city of Winnipeg. The Liberals tend to do better in River Heights and adjacent neighbourhoods like Wellington Crescent. They are also strong in Roslyn. The Conservatives tend to do better in Tuxedo and Brockville. Grant Park is a neighbourhood in the River Heights area of southern Winnipeg, Manitoba. Its general boundaries are Grant Avenue to the north, Stafford Street to the east, the CNR Mainline to the south, and Cambridge Street to the west.http://clkapps.winnipeg.ca/dmis/viewpdf.asp?sectionid=344158 History The Grant Park neighbourhood was one of the last areas in the former City of Winnipeg to develop. The land around what would become Grant Avenue—now one of Grant Park's most prominent streets—was first developed with the introduction of the Harte Subdivision for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (later Canadian National Railway) in 1908. When the ground of the railway track sank between Pembina Highway and Cambridge Street, the builders had to refix it with cement, rocks, and gravel. Rockwood is a neighbourhood in the River Heights area of south-central Winnipeg, Manitoba. Its borders are Corydon Avenue on the north, Stafford Street on the east, Grant Avenue to the south, and Cambridge Street to the west. River Heights is a suburb and community area in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is bordered by Route 90 to the west, the Assiniboine River to the north, Cambridge Street to the east, and Taylor Avenue to the south. History The land of present-day River Heights was once part of the Parish of St. Boniface. It was annexed by the City of Winnipeg in 1882, though substantial development did not occur in the area until after World War I. Some streets at the eastern end of River Heights are named after types of deciduous trees, Oak, Elm, Ash, while others are named after places, Waterloo (1881), Montrose, Oxford. Osborne Village
Osborne Village is a neighbourhood of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The area is bordered by the Assiniboine River on the north and west, Harkness Station on the east (see Winnipeg RT), and the Osborne Underpass on the south. History Osborne Village derives its name from Osborne Street ( Winnipeg Route 62), which runs through the centre of the village area. Osborne Street was named after Lieutenant Colonel William Osborne Smith (1831–1887) the first commanding officer of Military District 10, which included the City of Winnipeg. North of the Assiniboine River, Osborne Street was adjacent to the first Fort Osborne Barracks, on the site of which is now the Provincial Legislature. Osborne Village is part of the original Fort Rouge area, which became part of the City of Winnipeg as Ward 1 in 1882.
