Winnipeg Maroons (ice Hockey)
The Winnipeg Maroons were a senior ice hockey team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. History The Winnipeg Maroons existed as a senior hockey team of and on from at least 1925 to 1964. Senior hockey leagues did not consistently exist in Manitoba during those years, so the club would have competed in exhibition games during the years it was not part of an official league. This would have also prepared them for late season Allan Cup competition, where the winner of the Western Canada playdowns would face the representative from Eastern Canada for the Allan Cup senior ice hockey national championship. The Winnipeg Maroons played in 1925–26 in the Central Hockey League; this league reorganized as the American Hockey Association, where the Maroons competed during the 1926–27 and 1927–28 seasons. Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior AAA teams in Canada compete annually for the Allan Cup. Reg Abbott
Reginald Stewart Abbott (born February 4, 1930) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Abbott played three games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens during the 1952–53 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1950 to 1965, was mainly spent in the senior Ontario Hockey Association. Internationally Abbott played for Canadian national team at the 1965 World Championships. Personal life As a youth in Winnipeg, Abbott was an outstanding all-round athlete. He played baseball as the second baseman for the provincial champion Rosedales in Manitoba. Cambridge Hornets
The Cambridge Hornets were a Senior "AAA" ice hockey team based out of Cambridge, Ontario. They played in the Ontario Hockey Association's Major League Hockey. The new Cambridge Hornets were brought into Southwestern Senior A Hockey League in 1999. They were members of the league in 2003 when it changed its name to Major League Hockey. The Port Arthur Bearcats (Bear Cats) were a senior amateur ice hockey team based in Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada – now part of the city of Thunder Bay – from the early 1900s until 1970. Belleville McFarlands
The Belleville McFarlands were a Canadian senior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) from 1956 to 1961. The McFarlands were based out of Belleville, Ontario, playing home games at the Belleville Memorial Arena. History The McFarlands played in the OHA Senior A League and won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as league champions in 1958. The McFarlands also won the 1958 Allan Cup, defeating the Kelowna Packers four games to three. The following season, they represented Canada at the Ice Hockey World Championships, in Czechoslovakia winning the gold medal at the 1959 World Championship. The team won eight of nine games, including a final-round match versus the Soviet Union. The Kelowna Packers were a senior ice hockey team from Kelowna, British Columbia. The team existed from 1949 to 1960, and played as members of the Okanagan Senior Hockey League from 1951 onward. They were runners-up in the 1958 Allan Cup finals, and were the first ice hockey team from Canada to play an exhibition tour in the Soviet Union.
