Wingello Parish, Camden
The Parish of Wingello is a parish of the County of Camden in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales. It includes the area around the village of Wingello, and also includes the village of Tallong. The parish is located at the western end of the County of Camden, with Uringalla Creek the boundary to the west. The Southern Highlands railway line passes through the parish, including the stations of Tallong and Wingello. The Hume Highway Hume Highway, inclusive of the sections now known as Hume Freeway and Hume Motorway, is one of Australia's major inter-city national highways, running for between Melbourne in the southwest and Sydney in the northeast. Camden County, New South Wales
Camden County was one of the original Nineteen Counties in New South Wales and is now one of the 141 Cadastral divisions of New South Wales. It included the coastal area near Wollongong south to the Shoalhaven River, and also inland encompassing Berrima and Picton. Its western boundary was the Wollondilly River. The first settlement in the area was Camden Park, established by John Macarthur in 1806, just across the Nepean River from Cumberland County. It was the first land across the Nepean to be settled. Camden is a present-day suburb of Sydney in the same area, although parts of it are in Cumberland. Camden County is named in honour of John Pratt, 1st Marquess Camden (1759–1840). Tallong railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main South line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the village of Tallong, opening in 1869 as a small halt named Barbers Creek Tank. A platform was opened on 16 April 1878 and it was renamed Tallong on 6 April 1905. Tallong, New South Wales
Tallong is in the traditional lands of the Gundungurra people. It is a village within the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia, in Goulburn-Mulwaree Council. The village is located just outside the southern extremity of the Southern Highlands region and has some cultural and historic connections with this region also. In the , the village had a population of 813. The town is 8.5 km from the town of Marulan and 25 km from the town of Bundanoon. The principal industries of the village include stud farms, arts and crafts and services for surrounding farms. Tallong is home to the Tallong Midge Orchid (''Genoplesium plumosum''), a tiny flower found only in the area surrounding the town. This orchid is now a protected species. It was discovered in 1997. Wingello () is a village in the Southern Highlands, New South Wales, Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. It has a Wingello railway station, New South Wales, station on NSW TrainLink's Southern Highlands Line. The surrounding area is part of the lands administrative unit of the Wingello Parish, Camden, Wingello Parish, a subdivision of Wingecarribee Shire. History The name 'Wingello' comes from the Aboriginal term ''to burn''. The first site known as Wingello was on the old Main South Road, several kilometres to the west of the present village. A William Mannix wrote to the Surveyor General in December 1824 regarding land he wished to purchase at a location called 'Wanglow', this appears to be the earliest reference to the name.
