Wing Young Huie
Wing Young Huie is an American photographer born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1955. Photographer Wing Young Huie attended the University of Minnesota, earning his B.A. in journalism in 1979. He became a full-time professional photographer in 1989. He is known for innovative photography projects which engage the community such as his projects in the Frogtown neighborhood of Saint Paul and along the Lake Street corridor in Minneapolis. He would speak to occupants in the neighborhood, and ask to take their picture. He would then display the photographs and quotes in the same neighborhood, in sizes from small enough to fit in a storefront window to large enough to drape the side of the empty Sears building. Frogtown, Saint Paul
Frogtown is a neighborhood in Saint Paul in the U.S. state of Minnesota. Built around University Avenue, the Thomas-Dale neighborhood is colloquially known as Frogtown (german: Froschberg, meaning ''"Frogmountain"''). Historically, Frogtown was a subsection of the current Thomas-Dale neighborhood. It is bordered by University Avenue on the south, the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks to the north, Lexington Parkway on the west and Rice Street on the east. Early settlement The neighborhood was first settled 1860–1880 as the downtown area outgrew its borders. Workers on the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, now BNSF Railway, which was built just to the north of the neighborhood sought housing nearby. Lake Street (Minneapolis)
Lake Street is a major east-west thoroughfare between 29th and 31st streets in Minneapolis, Minnesota United States. From its western most end at the city's limits, Lake Street reaches the Chain of Lakes, passing over a small channel linking Bde Maka Ska and Lake of the Isles, and at its eastern most end it reaches the Mississippi River. In May 2020, the Lake Street corridor suffered extensive damage during local unrest over the murder of George Floyd. In August of the same year, city officials designated East Lake Street as one of seven cultural districts to promote racial equity, preserve cultural identity, and promote economic growth. Minnesota Historical Society
The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) is a nonprofit educational and cultural institution dedicated to preserving the history of the U.S. state of Minnesota. It was founded by the territorial legislature in 1849, almost a decade before statehood. The Society is named in the Minnesota Constitution. It is headquartered in the Minnesota History Center in downtown Saint Paul. Although its focus is on Minnesota history it is not constrained by it.
