Windy Harbour
Windy Harbour is a holiday settlement surrounded by D’Entrecasteaux National Park. It is located 27 km south of Northcliffe, on the south coast of Western Australia east of Augusta and west of Nornalup. It lies just east of Point D'Entrecasteaux. Fishing, snorkelling and whale watching are the major attractions of Windy Harbour. Coastal zone The area of Windy Harbour coastal zone was studied before it became part of the national park. Shire Of Manjimup
The Shire of Manjimup is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, about south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Manjimup. History The Shire area was first included in the Plantagenet, Wellington and Sussex Road Districts in 1871. Later the area was included in the Nelson Road District. The Shire of Manjimup originated as the Warren Road District, which was gazetted on 3 July 1908, initially consisting of seven elected members. It was renamed the Manjimup Road District on 23 January 1925. Snorkeling ( British and Commonwealth English spelling: snorkelling) is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped breathing tube called a snorkel, and usually swimfins. Sandy Island (Windy Harbour)
Sandy Island is a island lying about off the coast of Windy Harbour in south-west Western Australia, and near Point D'Entrecasteaux. It is part of D'Entrecasteaux National Park and is an important breeding site for seabirds. Description The island is aligned north-west to south-east, about long by wide, flat and mainly sandy. There is an area of limestone and unconsolidated dune at the north-western end. The southern coastline is composed of migmatitic rocks. Most of the island is vegetated with ''Poa'' tussock grassland, pigface and '' Lobelia anceps''. Some 46 plant species have been recorded. "Rock Lobster" is a song written by Fred Schneider and Ricky Wilson, two members of the B-52's. It was twice recorded and released as a single, first by DB Records as their debut release in April 1978, and again the following year for the band's self-titled debut album on Warner Bros. Records. The song became one of their signature tunes and launched the band's career. "Rock Lobster" was well-received by critics, and went on to place at No. 147 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list in December 2004. Composition and themes The original DB Records single version has a duration of 4:37, and is faster in tempo and more "raw" than the 1979 single version, basically due to lower sound quality and the absence of a bassline. It has the same lyrics as the re-recorded version, but with more lines during the sequence that lists marine animals. Battye Library
The J S Battye Library (more properly known as the J. S. Battye Library of West Australian History) is an arm of the State Library of Western Australia. It stores much of the state's historical records and original publications including books, newspapers, periodicals, maps, and ephemera, as well as oral history tapes, photographs and artworks, films and video, and non-government records which are kept in the library's Private Archives collection. The Library provides a range of services, including reference, copying, and genealogical services, as well as consultancy and reader education. Fishing
Fishing is the activity of trying to catch fish. Fish are often caught as wildlife from the natural environment, but may also be caught from stocked bodies of water such as ponds, canals, park wetlands and reservoirs. Fishing techniques include hand-gathering, spearing, netting, angling, shooting and trapping, as well as more destructive and often illegal techniques such as electrocution, blasting and poisoning. Blackwood-Stirling was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. It took parts of the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia. Politically, Blackwood-Stirling was a conservative seat. It was theoretically competitive between the two conservative forces in Western Australian politics, namely the Liberal Party and the National Party. Point D'Entrecasteaux
Point D'Entrecasteaux is a point on the south coast of Western Australia. The first European sighting was by the Frenchman Antoine Bruni d'Entrecasteaux in the 1700s, although there were possible sightings by Dutch navigators from ships such as '' Leeuwin'' in the 1600s. The nearest populated site on the coast is Windy Harbour to the east of the point, and Northcliffe to the north. The point is located within the D'Entrecasteaux National Park.
