Windsor Royals
The Windsor Royals, originally known simply as Windsor baseball club and formerly the Windsor Engineers is a baseball club that participates in the Greater Brisbane League competition and Brisbane Metro Baseball competition. History The 1948-1954 Windsor Engineers was the foundation of the Royals club, instituted by local Member of Parliament Bob Windsor. The club held its first official meeting on 5 May 1955 and first match two days later at Spencer Park. By 1958 the club had its first junior team and foundation members Stan Holloway and Eddie Tyler were made life members. In 1962 the club was renamed the Windsor Pepsi Pirates and it leased part of Spencer Park and named it Holloway Field, the ground was officially opened on 10 May 1964. Greater Brisbane League
The Greater Brisbane League or formerly the Greater Brisbane Baseball Board league (GB3) is the largest baseball league in the Australian state of Queensland and covers all teams from Brisbane North, South, West, Metro as well as three Gold Coast teams. These are from age groups Little League (U12) through to seniors. It is run by the governing body of Baseball Queensland. To participate in the Greater Brisbane Major League, clubs must meet certain criteria set by Baseball Queensland. Generally the hardest criteria for clubs to meet is to field a team in the junior age levels U14's, U16's and U20's. When this criterion is not met, senior teams may only compete in the South Queensland Baseball League or Pacific League competition. The GBL consists of six senior division teams from Major/Pacific League A and B through to South Queensland League A-C and a separate Masters competition. Newmarket is a north-west suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Newmarket had a population of 4,979 people. Geography Newmarket is located approximately by road from the Brisbane GPO. Holloway Field (officially Viticon Stadium, formerly Onehub Stadium, powered by Optus) is a baseball stadium in Newmarket, Queensland, Australia. It is the home to the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League and Windsor Royals baseball club in Newmarket, Queensland, Australia. Background After the formation of the Windsor Royals in 1955, the club looked for a permanent site to play baseball. Originally, Crosby Park in Albion was planned to be the new ground for the Royals, but was rejected by the Brisbane City Council. Claxton Shield
The Claxton Shield was the name of the premier baseball competition in Australia held between state-based teams, as well as the name of the trophy awarded to the champion team. From the summer of 1989–90 until 2001–02, and again since 2010–11, the tournament was replaced by one of three other competitions: the original Australian Baseball League (ABL), the International Baseball League of Australia (IBLA), and since the 2010–11 season the new ABL. Despite other competitions being held in place of the Claxton Shield, the physical trophy has remained the award for the winning teams. Though city-based teams have competed for the Claxton Shield in some seasons, the name engraved on the shield is that of the winning state; for the 2010–11 ABL season won by the Perth Heat, "West Australia 2011" was engraved.
