Windsor is an inner northern Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Windsor had a population of 7,811 people. Geography Windsor is located about from the Brisbane central business district. It is largely residential, featuring many old Queenslander (architecture), Queenslanders, although there is also considerable retail commercial activity, primarily concentrated along Lutwyche and Newmarket Roads. History Land was first sold in this remote part of then New South Wales in 1854 and development was slow until the opening of the Bowen Bridge in 1860, named after the newly arrived first Governor of Queensland, Sir George Bowen, allowing easier access to the district. Queenslander (architecture)
Queenslander architecture is a modern term for a type of residential housing, widespread in Queensland, Australia. It is also found in the northern parts of the adjacent state of New South Wales, and shares many traits with architecture in other states of Australia, but is distinct and unique. The form of the typical Queenslander-style residence distinguishes Brisbane's suburbs from other capital cities. The Queenslander is considered Australia's most iconic architectural style. This style developed in the 1840s and is still constructed today, displaying an evolution of local style. Brisbane Tuff
Brisbane tuff is a type of rock, formed as a result of a volcanic eruption. As the name suggests, it is a type of tuff found in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is a form of welded ignimbrite. Brisbane tuff comes in a variety of colours: pink, green, blue-grey, yellow and purple. The different colours are due to the extent of oxidation of iron and manganese. It is often incorrectly described as porphyry. History Brisbane tuff began to be used during the period when Captain Patrick Logan was the commandant of the Moreton Bay penal colony. Thomas Coutts
Thomas Coutts (7 September 1735 – 24 February 1822) was a British banker. He was a founder of the banking house Coutts & Co. Early life Coutts was the fourth son of Jean (née Steuart) Coutts and John Coutts (1699–1751), whose business in Edinburgh was as a corn factor and negotiator of bills of exchange, and in 1742 was elected lord provost of the city. The Breakfast Creek ( Aboriginal: ''Yawagara '') is a small urban stream that is a tributary of the Brisbane River, located in suburban Brisbane in the South East region of Queensland, Australia. Course and features Rising as the Enoggera Creek that drains the D'Aguilar Range in the D'Aguilar National Park, Breakfast Creek forms near where it flows a short meandering course of before reaching its confluence with the Brisbane River at Newstead, next to Newstead Park.
