Windang is a suburb of Wollongong in New South Wales on the southern tip of the peninsula guarding the ocean entrance to Lake Illawarra. Windang is popular for its fishing, prawning, boating, windsurfing and yachting. Windang is about 98 km south of Sydney, approximately 20 minutes drive south of the Wollongong CBD and about seven minutes from Shellharbour. History Windang is an aboriginal word meaning "scene of a fight". William Turnbull purchased land in the area in 1920 and erected a two-story building called "Wyndang House". In 1926 the Post Office attached to this house was officially named Windang Post Office following a submission from Turnbull to have the name changed from the unofficial Lake Illawarra Post Office. Wollongong ( ), colloquially referred to as The Gong, is a city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The name is believed to originate from the Dharawal language, meaning either 'five islands/clouds', 'ground near water' or 'sound of the sea'. Hockey Dad
Hockey Dad is an Australian surf rock band from Windang, New South Wales, Australia. The band consists of two members, drummer Billy Fleming and vocalist and guitarist Zach Stephenson. History The band was founded in 2013, although the members claim to have played together before being an official band with a third member Bailey Carson. The duo cites a band called Abstract Classic as an earlier project that fizzled out before they became Hockey Dad. Fleming and Stephenson were both born and raised in Windang, New South Wales, and lived two doors down from each other on Boronia Avenue in New South Wales, where they still reside. The members met in 1999 at the ages of three and four when they were playing a neighbourhood game of football on the street. Shellharbour (also known as Shellharbour Village) is a suburb located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Kiama () is a coastal town 120 kilometres south of Sydney in the Illawarra. One of the main tourist attractions is the Kiama Blowhole. Primbee, New South Wales
Primbee is a small suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the northern spit separating Lake Illawarra and the Pacific Ocean. Primbee is close to Windang and Warrawong in the Illawarra. History The source of the name Primbee is uncertain. Farms in the area were owned in the 1860s by James Stewart, David James and Thomas Griffin. An 1893 map for the Parish of Wollongong shows the bay off Purry Burry Point as Primbee Bay. The area was subdivided and the land was offered for sale in 1919, not as Primbee but as "The Lake Suburb". One resident of the area in the 1920s recalled that "I came to Primbee in 1920... My parents were one of the first to buy property, when the estate was cut up. It was called Lake Suburb Estate at the time. I don't known how it came to be called Primbee.
