George Winckelmann
George Arvid Winckelmann (24 August 1884 Oulu – 15 November 1962 Helsinki) was a Finnish lawyer and a diplomat. Winckelmann's parents were bank manager consul Henrik Winckelmann and Jenny Boström. He became a student from Oulu Lyceum in 1902 and studied at the University of Helsinki, completing a 1905 Master's degree and a 1906 jurisprudence. Winckelmann received the rank of Master Judge in 1910. Winckelmann served as the youngest legal adviser in Helsinki in 1912-1917 and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as First Secretary 1918 and as Head of Division 1922-1929. He served as Chargé d'Affaires in Tokyo from 1930 to 1933 and in Madrid and Lisbon since 1933. Johann Joachim Winckelmann (; ; 9 December 17178 June 1768) was a German art historian and archaeologist. He was a pioneering Hellenist who first articulated the differences between Greek, Greco-Roman and Roman art. "The prophet and founding hero of modern archaeology", Boorstin, 584 Winckelmann was one of the founders of scientific archaeology and first applied the categories of style on a large, systematic basis to the history of art. Many consider him the father of the discipline of art history. He was one of the first to separate Greek Art into periods, and time classifications. He had a decisive influence on the rise of the Neoclassical movement during the late 18th century. His writings influenced not only a new science of archaeology and art history but Western painting, sculpture, literature and even philosophy. Johann Just Winckelmann (19 August 1620 – 3 July 1699) was a German writer and historian. Under his pseudonym Stanislaus Mink von Wennsshein (also Wenusheim, Winusheim) he is known for having introduced a mnemonic system, the Major System (also called phonetic system or phonetic mnemonic system), used for memorizing numbers. Life Johann Just Winckelmann was born in Gießen in 1620, the youngest of the known sons of the theologian . His mother was his father's fourth wife, and by the time of his birth his father was nearly 70. After his father died, in 1626, his mother sent him away to live with relatives near Butzbach, where he was provided with a classical schooling. Maria Margarethe Winckelmann
Maria Margaretha Kirch (''née'' Winckelmann, in historic sources named Maria Margaretha Kirchin; 25 February 1670 – 29 December 1720) was a German astronomer. She was one of the first famous astronomers of her period due to her writing on the conjunction of the sun with Saturn, Venus, and Jupiter in 1709 and 1712 respectively. Early life Maria was educated from an early age by her father, a Lutheran minister, who believed that she deserved an education equivalent to that given to young boys. By the age of 13 she had lost both her father and mother. By that time, she had also received a general education from her brother-in-law Justinus Toellner and the well-known self taught astronomer Christoph Arnold, who lived nearby in the town of Sommerfeld and was credited with being the first to discover a passing comet.
