Winchendon Music Festival
The Winchendon Music Festival (WMF) is a non-profit organization and concert series held in Winchendon, Massachusetts. The Festival showcases performances by international artists from a variety of genres including (but not limited to) classical, folk, jazz, historical performance, and world music. Concerts are free to the public, with support from several local Cultural Councils, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation, the Winchendon History & Cultural Center, and the First Congregational Church of Winchendon. Winchendon is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 10,364 at the 2020 census. The town includes the villages of Waterville and Winchendon Springs (also known as Spring Village). Old Centre Historic District
The Old Centre Historic District (colloquially Old Center) is a historic district encompassing the historic town center of Winchendon, Massachusetts. It includes the town's first cemetery, the First Congregational Church, and the oldest surviving house (c. 1752) in town, and only one building constructed after 1850. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Description and history Land making up the town of Winchendon was granted to Massachusetts veterans of the 1690 Battle of Quebec from Ipswich, and was originally called Ipswich Canada. The Arcadia Players is an American chamber orchestra using historically informed performance to explore repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical eras. Based in Northampton, Massachusetts, the ensemble performs throughout New England. Background Founded in 1989 by Margaret Irwin-Brandon, the Arcadia Players holds a residency at the Massachusetts Center for Renaissance Studies at UMass Amherst. Randall Scotting is an American countertenor performing internationally at opera houses and concert venues. As a young singer, he made his American stage debut performing the role of Nireno in Handel's ''Giulio Cesare'' at Opera Colorado. Randall's first leading role in an opera was singing Oberon in Britten's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' in New York as part of the Juilliard Opera Center. Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol (born September 24, 1974) is a Grammy nominated Turkish-American composer and CMES Harvard University fellow who is a jazz pianist and singer that also performs a number of Near and Middle Eastern instruments as well as the keyboardless synthesizer Continuum Fingerboard and the ''SANLIKOL Renaissance 17'', a digital microtonal keyboard designed and conceived by himself. Anne Azéma (born October 19, 1957) is a French-born soprano, scholar, and stage director. She is currently artistic director of the Boston Camerata. She has been an important or leading singer of early music since 1993. She has created and directed programs for the Boston Camerata and is also noted as a music scholar. She is perhaps best known for performing music from the Middle Ages, lute songs from the Renaissance period, Baroque sacred music, Shaker song, and contemporary music theater. Historically informed performance (also referred to as period performance, authentic performance, or HIP) is an approach to the performance of Western classical music, classical music, which aims to be faithful to the approach, manner and style of the musical era in which a work was originally conceived.
