Pannonia Film Studio (also known as MAFILM Pannónia Filmstúdió) was the largest animation studio in Hungary, based in the capital of Budapest. It was formed in 1951, becoming independent in 1957. The studio is said to have closed sometime around 2015. Gustav (cartoon)
Gustav, also known as Gustavus, (Hungarian ''Gusztáv'', 1966-1979) was a Hungarian series of animated short cartoons (5 minutes) for adults. Each episode tells an adventure of the main character, Gustav, related to the grey realities of urban life. Characteristic feature of the show was that episodes were independent: for example, Gustav is sometimes a bachelor, sometimes has large family. In Eastern Europe and Yugoslavia the episodes were broadcast on TV in the 80s, usually as airtime filler. The series was also broadcast in Western Europe and even in New Zealand - because it was not using language, other than gibberish sound, it was able to easily transcend boundaries. In 2013 and 2014, Gusztáv was again broadcast in Croatia, on national television, usually as an airtime filler. However, over 40 episodes were broadcast between films in special Christmas/New Year film marathons. René Laloux
René Laloux (; July 1929 – 14 March 2004) was a French animator, screenwriter and film director. Biography He was born in Paris in 1929 and went to art school to study painting. After some time working in advertising, he got a job in a psychiatric institution where he began experimenting in animation with the interns. It is at the psychiatric institution that he made the 1960 film ''Monkey's Teeth'' ('' Les Dents du Singe''), in collaboration with Paul Grimault's studio, and using a script written by the Cour Cheverny's interns. Another important collaborator of his was Roland Topor with whom Laloux made ''Dead Time'' ('' Les Temps Morts'', 1964), ''The Snails'' ('' Les Escargots'', 1965) and his most famous work, the feature length ''Fantastic Planet'' ('' La Planète Sauvage'', 1973). ''The Little Fox'', known in Hungary as ''Vuk'', is a 1981 Hungarian animated film produced by Pannónia Filmstúdió, based on the novel '' Vuk'' by István Fekete. The film is directed by Attila Dargay and written by Attila Dargay, István Imre and Ede Tarbay, and released in 1981. A computer animated and widely panned sequel, '' A Fox's Tale'', was released in 2008. Plot The film tells the story of a little fox kit, Vic (Vuk in the original Hungarian version), who ventures away from his family's den and, upon his return finds it empty. He concludes that his whole family left the den with the human hunter (called "Smoothskinner" in the cartoon) because he can smell him. ''Son of the White Mare'' () is a 1981 Hungarian animated fantasy adventure film directed by Marcell Jankovics. The story's main character is Fehérlófia (Son of the White Mare), who has superhuman powers. It is based on the narrative poetry, under the same title, from László Arany and ancient Hunnic, Avaric and Hungarian legends; as a tribute to ancient steppe peoples. Plot Fanyüvő (Treeshaker) is born as the third son of a horse, and he gains his power by suckling the horse's milk. He listens to old tales, mostly about the Forefather and the end of his reign, caused by evil humanoid dragons freed by the three wives of the three sons of the Forefather.
