Wills Creek Conservation Park
Wills Creek Conservation Park is a protected area located on the Yorke Peninsula adjoining the north west coast of Gulf St Vincent in South Australia immediately east of Price. The conservation park which was proclaimed in 2006 under the ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'', is considered to be ‘a significant coastal wetland/estuary area supporting mangroves and intertidal habitats’ and that two creeks located within its boundaries, Wills and Shag Creeks, are ‘known fish nursery areas’ and ‘an important habitat for seabirds’. The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area. Price, South Australia
Price is a town and locality on Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. It is within the Yorke Peninsula Council local government area and is north west of the centre of state capital, Adelaide. History and development The township, which was proclaimed on 3 August 1882, is near the northern boundary of the Hundred of Cunningham. It was named by Sir William Jervois, Governor of South Australia 1877–83, after his daughter in law, Florence Annie Price, who married John Jervois, his eldest son. She was a daughter of Henry Strong Price, a pioneer pastoralist of the Flinders Ranges. Boundaries for the locality were created on 27 May 1999 for the "long established name." The principal local industries are grain farming and salt production. In the case of the latter, approximately 170,000 tonnes of sea salt is harvested from of coastal salt evaporation ponds each year. Cheetham Salt owns the operations. Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values. There are several kinds of protected areas, which vary by level of protection depending on the enabling laws of each country or the regulations of the international organizations involved. Yorke Peninsula
The Yorke Peninsula is a peninsula located northwest and west of Adelaide in South Australia, between Spencer Gulf on the west and Gulf St Vincent on the east. The peninsula is separated from Kangaroo Island to the south by Investigator Strait. The most populous town in the region is Kadina. History Prior to European settlement of the area commencing around 1840, following the British colonisation of South Australia, Yorke Peninsula was the home to the Narungga people. Gulf St Vincent
Gulf St Vincent, sometimes referred to as St Vincent Gulf, St Vincent's Gulf or Gulf of St Vincent, is the eastern of two large inlets of water on the southern coast of Australia, in the state of South Australia, the other being the larger Spencer Gulf, from which it is separated by Yorke Peninsula. On its eastern side the gulf is bordered by the Adelaide Plains and the Fleurieu Peninsula. The Gulf St Vincent Important Bird Area comprises land extending along the coast of Gulf St Vincent, north of Adelaide, South Australia.
