Willowfield F.C.
Willowfield is a defunct intermediate football club which existed in Northern Ireland during the inter-war years. The club was formed by the Willowfield Unionist Club in 1918.Jim Weir and Alan Higgins, ''A History of Willowfield Football'' (Belfast: Jim Weir and Alan Higgins, 2021), p. 17 In the 1927–28 season, it became the first from outside the Irish League to win the Irish Cup since the League's formation in 1890. They defeated Larne 1–0 in the final at Windsor Park. Willowfield had previously reached the Irish Cup final in 1923–24, when they lost to Queen's Island. The club played from 1918 to 1926 at the Cregagh Recreation Grounds (home of Cregagh Cricket Club), and then at the Willowfield Recreation Grounds (now Gibson Park Avenue), which is now the home of Malone Rugby Club, who acquired it in 1935. Northern Ireland Football League System
The Northern Ireland football league system is categorised into three levels: senior, intermediate and junior. Clubs attain intermediate status by fulfilling certain criteria (e.g. owning or leasing its own enclosed ground). Senior status requires clubs to reach stricter criteria. National leagues exist at senior and intermediate level. All junior leagues and some intermediate are organised on a regional basis. Northern Amateur Football League
The Northern Amateur Football League, also known as the Northern Amateur League and often simply as the Amateur League, is an association football league in Northern Ireland. It contains 13 divisions. These comprise four intermediate sections: the Premier Division, Division 1A, Division 1B and Division 1C; three junior sections: Division 2A, Division 2B and Division 2C; and six reserve sections. Steel & Sons Cup
The Steel & Sons Cup (also referred to as the Steel Cup) is an intermediate football competition in Northern Ireland run by the North East Ulster Football Association (also known as the County Antrim & District Football Association). The competition culminates in the final which has traditionally been played on 25 December (except when this date falls on a Sunday). The 2006 final, however, broke with tradition when it was staged on the Saturday before 25 December as this was a closed date for all other football fixtures in Northern Ireland. The final returned to its original Christmas Day slot in 2007-08. The 2012–13 tournament was declared null after Glentoran II were stripped of their title having fielded an ineligible player in an earlier round. This is the first time in the tournament's history that no winner was declared. The current holder is Bangor Football Club. The Irish Intermediate League was a Northern Irish football competition for teams of intermediate status, which also included reserve sides of senior teams. The league ran from 1915 until 1954. History It began in 1915 after the amalgamation of the Irish Junior League and Irish Senior Reserve League, and ran until 1954, when the majority of the remaining clubs applied to join the Irish League B Division, which had been formed in 1951. Until the introduction of the Irish League B Division it was the second tier of the Northern Ireland football league system. Malone RFC (Malone Rugby Football Club) is a rugby union club based in Belfast, in Northern Ireland. It is currently in the Division 1B of the All-Ireland League. The club is affiliated with the Ulster Branch, itself part of the Irish Rugby Football Union. It is one of the last remaining Belfast rugby clubs not to have amalgamated and still plays at its original ground.
