''Batman Beyond'' (known as ''Batman of the Future'' outside the United States) is an American superhero animated television series based on the DC Comics superhero Batman. Created and developed by Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, and Alan Burnett and produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series began airing on January 10, 1999 on Kids' WB, and ended on December 18, 2001. In the United Kingdom, it began airing on September 4, 2000. After 52 episodes spanning three seasons and one direct-to-video feature film, the series was brought to an end in favor of the ''Justice League'' animated series, and plans for a fourth season were cancelled. Ryan Sean O'Donohue (born April 26, 1984) is an American actor. He is most notable for his performances as a voice actor in many Disney projects especially as Demyx in the ''Kingdom Hearts'' video game franchise. As a live-action actor, he was part of the main cast of ''The Byrds of Paradise''. Early life and career O'Donohue was born in Pomona, California on April 26, 1984 to Anita Lynne Rultenberg and Sean Patrick O'Donohue. He was raised in San Dimas, California. He has a younger sister named Windy. O'Donohue played Zeke Byrd on the 1994 ABC drama ''The Byrds of Paradise'', filmed in Hawaii. TV producer Steven Bochco was one of the show's executive producers. Batman (Terrence "Terry" McGinnis Wayne) is a fictional superhero appearing in media published by DC Entertainment. The character was created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini and first appeared in the pilot episode of the animated television series ''Batman Beyond'' (1999–2001), voiced by Will Friedle. Terry is the vigilante known as Batman in the future, having taken over the mantle after the aging Bruce Wayne retired. In the DC Animated Universe continuity, he eventually learns that he is a biogenetic son of Bruce Wayne, created through covert genetic engineering by Project Cadmus. However, neither knew of their relationship at first. Bat-Signal
The Bat-Signal is a distress signal device appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, as a means to summon the superhero, Batman. It is a specially modified searchlight with a stylized emblem of a bat affixed to the light, allowing it to project a large bat symbol onto cloudy night skies over Gotham City. The signal is used by the Gotham City Police Department as a method of contacting and summoning Batman in the event his help is needed, but also as a weapon of psychological intimidation to the numerous criminals of Gotham City. It doubles as the primary logo for the ''Batman'' series of comic books, TV shows and films. To celebrate Batman's 80th anniversary, DC Comics and Warner Bros. lit the Bat-Signal in thirteen cities on September 21, 2019, starting in Melbourne and ending in Los Angeles.
