Willie Scott (American Football)
Willie Louis Scott (February 13, 1959 – February 8, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). Scott was the son of Gloria and Willie Scott. Gloria and Willie were employed at Newberry High School. Gloria was a math teacher and Willie was an assistant principal. Scott attended Newberry High School in Newberry, South Carolina. Scott graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1981 and was drafted and went on to play with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1981 to 1985 and also the New England Patriots from 1986 to 1988. He was a leader of the NAACP for his region. Newberry, South Carolina
Newberry is a city in Newberry County, South Carolina, United States, in the Piedmont northwest of Columbia. The charter was adopted in 1894. The population was 10,277 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Newberry County; at one time it was called Newberry Courthouse. Newberry became a city in 1976, but did not report the change to the Census Bureau for more than twenty-five years. As a result, the city was listed as a town in the 2000 census. It is the home of Newberry College, a private liberal-arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Geography Newberry is located at (34.277655, -81.616560). The 1988 New England Patriots season was the franchise's 19th season in the National Football League, the 29th overall and the 5th under head coach Raymond Berry. With a record of nine wins and seven losses, they finished tied for second in the AFC East Division. It would take until 1994 for the Patriots to record another winning season. The Patriots improved on its 8–7 record from 1987, winning one more game due to one game being cancelled the previous season. Despite the winning record, the Patriots did not reach the postseason. Brookland-Cayce High School is a public high school located in Cayce, South Carolina, United States. History The school was built in 1932. Named for the cities of Brookland (now West Columbia) and Cayce which it originally served, the school now serves parts of West Columbia, Cayce, South Congaree, Pine Ridge, and Gaston. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. In some systems, the tight end will merely act as a sixth offensive lineman, rarely going out for passes.
