Willie Meléndez
Wilfredo "Willie" Melendez Velez (also known as "Wilito" Melendez) is an American-Puerto Rican former professional basketball player who played in the BSN league from 1974 to 1992. He is also a school teacher, having taught at his adoptive city Cayey's Benigno Fernandez Garcia Middle School during his heyday as a professional basketball player. Professional basketball career Melendez, born in Columbus, Georgia, debuted as a professional basketball player with the Santos de San Juan, a defunct BSN franchise from San Juan. During his first season as a BSN player, he did not see much action, participating in only eight games and scoring fifteen points for an average of 1.9 points per game. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, abbreviated as BSN, is the first-tier-level professional men's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1929 and is organized by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, which is played under FIBA rules of basketball, rules, currently consists of 12 teams, of which the most successful has been the Vaqueros de Bayamón with 16 titles as of 2022. Jose "Willie" Quiñones Figueroa (born February 22, 1956) is a Puerto Rican former professional basketball player who played for 20 seasons on Puerto Rico's top professional basketball league, Baloncesto Superior Nacional, with the Criollos de Caguas, Maratonistas de Coamo, Vaqueros de Bayamon, Gigantes de Carolina and Titanes de Morovis basketball teams. He was also a member of the Puerto Rico men's national basketball team. Playing career Quiñones debuted with the Criollos during 1976. That season, he played 32 games, scoring 503 points, with 304 rebounds and 26 assists for averages of 15.7, 10.6 and 0.8 respectively. Mario Morales Micheo (born November 13, 1957) is a former Puerto Rican basketball player. He is known as a.k.a. "Quijote" Morales for his ability to conquer both scoring and team championships in Puerto Rico's BSN league. He is the father of Evansville Purple Aces women's volleyball coach Fernando Morales Lopez. And he also played for the Villanova Wildcats Men's Basketball team in 1975-76 season where he averaged 4.7 points and 1.5 rebounds and Villanova went 16-11.
