Willie Hayes
William John Hayes, also referred to as Willie Hayes or Billy Hayes, (30 March 1928 – August 2014) was an Irish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Limerick, Torquay United, Ellesmere Port and Wrexham. As an international, Hayes also played for Ireland. Hayes was 21 when he made his one and only appearance for Ireland on 24 April 1949 in a 2–0 defeat to Belgium at Dalymount Park. His teammates on the day included Johnny Carey, Con Martin, Billy Walsh, Jackie O'Driscoll and Paddy Coad. Although a goalkeeper he was only 5 ft 9 inches tall. Limerick ( ; ga, Luimneach ) is a western city in Ireland situated within County Limerick. It is in the province of Munster and is located in the Mid-West which comprises part of the Southern Region. Con Martin
Cornelius Joseph Martin (20 March 1923 – 24 February 2013) was an Irish footballer. Martin initially played Gaelic football for the Dublin county team before switching codes and embarking on a successful soccer career, playing for, among others, Drumcondra, Glentoran, Leeds United and Aston Villa. Martin was also a dual international and played and captained both Ireland teams – the FAI XI and the IFA XI. In 1949 he was a member of the FAI XI that defeated England 2–0 at Goodison Park, a feat that is often cited as the first non-UK team to beat England at home, although the team that day contained several players that were also capped by Northern Ireland due to the selection policy followed by both teams at the time. Martin, nicknamed ''Mr. Versatility'', played in nearly every position during his soccer career. Bill Hayes (footballer, Born 1915)
William Edward Hayes (7 November 1915 in Cork, Ireland – 22 April 1987) was an Irish footballer who played for Huddersfield Town, Cork United and Burnley. As an international, Hayes played for both Ireland teams – the FAI XI and the IFA XI. Like fellow dual international, Billy Walsh, he also represented England Schoolboys. Another William Hayes also played for Ireland during the 1940s. Club career Huddersfield Town Hayes moved to England as a youth and played junior football in the Sheffield area before being spotted by Huddersfield Town as a teenager. In two spells with Town, either side of the Second World War, he made 184 league appearances and scored 5 league goals. He also made 21 wartime league appearances for the club during the 1939–40 season. Hayes won all six of his senior international caps while playing for Town. Paddy Coad
Paddy Coad (14 April 1920 – 8 March 1992) was an Irish football player and manager. He played as a forward for Waterford, Glenavon, Shamrock Rovers and Ireland. Although known, primarily, as a maker of goals, Coad scored 126 goals in the League of Ireland and a further 41 in the FAI Cup. In 1946–47, he was top goalscorer in the League of Ireland. As a player manager, he also guided Shamrock Rovers to three League of Ireland titles and two FAI Cups, before he returned to Waterford and guided them to their first league title in 1966. He was appointed manager of Limerick in September 1967. Early years Coad was educated at De La Salle school in Stephen Street in Waterford and first distinguished himself as a sportsman playing hurling and table tennis. John Francis O'Driscoll (20 September 1921 – 11 March 1988), commonly referred to as Jackie O'Driscoll, is a former Irish association football, footballer who played as a winger for several teams in the League of Ireland. He also played for Swansea Town F.C., Swansea Town. O'Driscoll was a List of dual Irish international footballers, dual international and played for both Ireland teams – the Republic of Ireland national football team, FAI XI and the Ireland national football team (1882–1950), IFA XI. Billy Walsh (Irish Footballer)
William Walsh (31 May 1921 – 28 July 2006) was an Irish footballer. Walsh played for several clubs, but most notably with Manchester City, for whom he made more than 100 appearances. As an international, Walsh represented four national teams: after playing for the England Schoolboys XI, he then became a dual Irish international, playing for both Ireland teams – the FAI XI and the IFA XI. In 1949, he was a member of the FAI XI that defeated England 2–0 at Goodison Park, becoming the first non-United Kingdom team to beat England at home. He then emigrated to New Zealand and also played in an unofficial game for their national team. In 1960 Walsh was the selector of the Auckland FA with son, Kevin, in the side. Walsh eventually moved to Australia and settled in Noosa, Queensland. In 2003, he and several other former Manchester City players returned for the last game at Maine Road.
