Willie Clark (ice Hockey)
William McLean Clark (born 14 May 1931) is a British retired ice hockey player, manager and administrator. He is a member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. Career Clark began his playing career when he became a steward at the Murrayfield Ice Rink in the early 1950s. After starting as a defenceman he soon moved to being a goaltender and joined the Murrayfield Royals as their backup goaltender. After playing briefly with the Glasgow Flyers, Clark returned to the Royals as their starting goaltender. With the formation of the Northern League in 1966 the Royals changed their name to the Murrayfield Racers. Clark backstopped the team to three consecutive league and playoff championships in 1969–70, 1970–71 and 1971–72 as well as having won the playoffs in the 1968–69 and 1974–75 seasons. Goaltender
In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the ''Ice hockey rink#Crease, goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. In the modern age of goaltending there are two common styles, butterfly and hybrid (hybrid is a mix of the traditional stand-up style and butterfly technique). Murrayfield Racers Players
Murrayfield is an affluent area to the west of Edinburgh city centre in Scotland. It is to the east of Corstorphine and north of Balgreen and Roseburn. The A8 road runs east–west through the south of the area. Murrayfield is often considered to include the smaller neighbouring areas of Ravelston (to the north) and Roseburn (to the south). History The name comes from the estate of Archibald Murray who built Murrayfield House for himself in 1735 on the south-facing slopes over the area. Archibald Murray bought the land from Nisbet of Dean in 1733; it was previously Nisbet's Park. Alexander Murray, Lord Henderland was born here the year after its construction. Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) is the national governing body of ice hockey in the United Kingdom. Affiliated to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), IHUK is the internationally recognised umbrella body in the United Kingdom. IHUK was created to replace the British Ice Hockey Association (BIHA). The organisation is responsible to the IIHF for the good order of the sport in the UK. The Murrayfield Racers were an ice hockey team based in Edinburgh, Scotland who were founded in 1952 as the Murrayfield Royals before changing their name to the Murrayfield Racers in 1966. The team won the British Championship four times in four consecutive seasons from 1969 until 1972.
