Walsh Island GAA
Walsh Island is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Walsh Island in County Offaly, Ireland. With 12 Senior Football wins and 2 Leinster Championship wins, they are one of the most successful clubs in the Offaly. History Before the club was formed in 1930, many players from Walsh Island played for nearby ''Geashill GAA''. It was decided that the club's colours would be the green and white hoops of Shamrock Rovers, the top football club in Ireland. The hoops did not clash with any club colours in North Offaly and were adopted as the colours. The first match played by Walsh Island was against Ballykeane. The club won the Offaly Senior Football Championship in 1933, their first year in the competition. Walsh Island was now the dominant team in the county and remained so until 1943. Donie O'Sullivan (Gaelic Footballer)
Donie O'Sullivan (; born 1940) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Spa club and at senior level for the Kerry county team between 1962 and 1975. He was the recipient of Kerry's first All Star Award in 1971, a feat he repeated in 1972. In 2019, he was inducted into Munster GAA's "hall of fame". According to a 2019 interview, while studying educational psychology at St. John's University in New York during the 1960s, O'Sullivan was offered a contract by New York Jets coach Weeb Ewbank. Leinster ( ; ga, Laighin or ) is one of the provinces of Ireland, situated in the southeast and east of Ireland. The province comprises the ancient Kingdoms of Meath, Leinster and Osraige. The Texaco Footballer of the Year was a Gaelic football award, created in 1958, that honoured the achievements of a footballer of outstanding excellence. The award was part of the Texaco Sportstars Awards, in which Irish sportspeople from all fields were honoured. The award was presented annually to the Gaelic footballer considered to have performed the best over the previous year in the Football Championship. Voting for the award was undertaken by a select group of journalists from television and the print media. The award itself, standing 14 inches high, was one of the most sought-after accolades in Irish sport. Billy Morgan (Gaelic Footballer)
William Morgan (born 2 February 1945) is an Irish former Gaelic football manager who played as goalkeeper at senior level for and, later, managed the Cork county team. His five-decade-long association with the team has led to him being regarded as one of the most iconic figures within Cork football. Born in Cork, Morgan was introduced to Gaelic games by his father, a native of Galway who had played hurling at junior level with the county. He came to prominence with Coláiste Chríost Rí before later winning back-to-back Sigerson Cup medals with University College Cork. A two-time All-Ireland medallist with the Nemo Rangers senior team, Morgan also won four Leinster medals and seven championship medals. The 1971 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 85th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 25 April 1971 and ended on 26 September 1971. Kerry entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Cork in the Munster final. On 26 September 1971, Offaly won the championship following a 1-14 to 2-8 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final. This was their first All-Ireland title.
