Willie Brown (American Football)
William Ferdie Brown (December 2, 1940 – October 21, 2019) was an American professional football player, coach, and executive. He played as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). Following his playing career, Brown remained with the Raiders as an assistant coach. He served as the head football coach at California State University, Long Beach in 1991, the final season before the school's football program was terminated. Brown was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1984. At the time of his death he was on the Raiders' administrative staff. Playing career Brown played college football at Grambling State University and was not drafted by any professional team after leaving school in 1963. Cornerback
A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. They create turnovers through hard tackles, interceptions, and deflecting forward passes. Other members of the defensive backfield include strong and free safeties. The cornerback position requires speed, agility, strength, and the ability to make rapid sharp turns. 2019 NFL Season
The 2019 NFL season was the 100th season of the National Football League (NFL) and the 54th of the Super Bowl era. The season began on September 5, 2019, with the NFL Kickoff Game, in which Green Bay defeated Chicago. The season concluded with Super Bowl LIV, the league's championship game, on February 2, 2020, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida in which American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City defeated National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco, to win their second Super Bowl championship. NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team
The National Football League 100th Anniversary All-Time Team was voted on by a panel consisting of media members, former players and league personnel in 2019 to honor the greatest players of the first 100 years of the National Football League (NFL). 1974 Pro Bowl
The 1974 Pro Bowl was the NFL's 24th annual all-star game which featured the outstanding performers from the 1973 season. The game was played on Sunday, January 20, 1974, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The final score was AFC 15, NFC 13. The attendance for the game was 51,484 though nearly 70,000 tickets were sold. John Madden of the Oakland Raiders coached the AFC while the NFC was led by the Dallas Cowboys' Tom Landry. Kicker Garo Yepremian of the Miami Dolphins was the game's MVP. Yepremian set a Pro Bowl record which still stands as of 2018, kicking five field goals in the game. The game was played on January 24, 1971, at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The final score was NFC 27, AFC 6. Defensive back Mel Renfro of the Dallas Cowboys was named the game's offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his two punt return touchdowns (82 and 56 yards) on special teams, and linebacker Fred Carr of the Green Bay Packers was selected as the defensive MVP.
