Willie Banks (baseball)
Willie Anthony Banks (born February 27, 1969) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Marlins, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox. At St. Anthony's High School, he twice struck out 19 batters in a seven inning game. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The 1995 Los Angeles Dodgers season was the 106th for the franchise in Major League Baseball, and their 38th season in Los Angeles, California. The season was notable for the American baseball debut of Japanese pitcher Hideo Nomo. In his first season with the Dodgers after an accomplished career in the Japanese leagues, Nomo went 13–6 with a 2.54 ERA and a league leading 236 strikeouts.
