Paisley ( ; sco, Paisley, gd, Pàislig ) is a large town situated in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. Located north of the Gleniffer Braes, the town borders the city of Glasgow to the east, and straddles the banks of the White Cart Water, a tributary of the River Clyde. Paisley serves as the administrative centre for the Renfrewshire council area, and is the largest town in the historic county of the same name. It is often cited as "Scotland's largest town" and is the fifth largest settlement in the country, although it does not have city status. The town became prominent in the 12th century, with the establishment of Paisley Abbey, an important religious hub which formerly had control over other local churches. Williamsburg, Michigan
Williamsburg is an unincorporated community in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. It is located in central Whitewater Township, which is part of Grand Traverse County. M-72 runs directly through the town. History There is evidence that three different cultures of people have lived in this area since 10,500 BC, especially on Skegemog Point in Lake Skegemog and Elk Lake. Records show that a branch of the Algonquin people, known as the Mascoutin, lived in the area until around 1630s. The Ottawa and Chippewa peoples came in after this, until the early 1800s, when white settlers moved in, calling their new settlement Dunbar. It was later renamed to Williamsburgh, and soon after the "h" was removed. In 1973, 100 to 150 sinkholes opened up around the town due to natural gas leaks. Williamsburgh, North Carolina
Williamsburgh (Williamsburg after 1832) was a town in north Iredell County, North Carolina from 1815 to 1971. It was the second town in Iredell County established by the North Carolina General Assembly, after Statesville, North Carolina. In the 1800s, the town contained a tavern, post office, church, and possibly a horse racing venue. Williamsburgh was located in the southeast section of Union Grove Township, which was created in 1868. The only portions of the town to survive after its charter was repealed in 1971 was the Macedonia Methodist Church (established in 1829). Early history In the early 1800s, there was a need for a town in the north end of the Iredell County. A commission was appointed by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1815 to lay out a new town, Williamsburgh, in north Iredell County.
