Williams-Ball-Copeland House
Williams-Ball-Copeland House, also known as the Franks House, The Villa, Hampton Heights, and Baptist Retirement Center, is a historic home located at Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina. It was built about 1859-1861 as a summer residence. It is a two-story, Italianate style brick residence with a stuccoed and scored exterior. Also on the property are two, small, brick outbuildings; originally the summer kitchen and the other was a combination smokehouse and food storage house. Laurens is a city in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,139 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Laurens County. History Located in upstate South Carolina, the city of Laurens is named after Henry Laurens, a South Carolina merchant and rice planter who was one of America's wealthiest slave traders. He was a delegate to and second president of the Continental Congress and served as a diplomat. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Laurens was established by an act of the General Assembly on March 15, 1785, as a location for commercial activities. The Italianate style was a distinct 19th-century phase in the history of Classical architecture. Like Palladianism and Neoclassicism, the Italianate style drew its inspiration from the models and architectural vocabulary of 16th-century Italian Renaissance architecture, synthesising these with picturesque aesthetics.
