Sir William Whitmore, 2nd Baronet
Sir William Whitmore, 2nd Baronet (6 April 1637 – 30 March 1699) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons from 1661 to 1699. Whitmore was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Whitmore, 1st Baronet of Apley Hall, Shropshire and his wife Elizabeth Acton, daughter of Sir William Acton, 1st Baronet (1570-1651). Bridgnorth (UK Parliament Constituency)
Bridgnorth was a parliamentary borough in Shropshire which was represented in the House of Commons of England from 1295 until 1707, then in the House of Commons of Great Britain until 1800, and in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 until its abolition in 1885. It was represented by two burgesses until 1868, when it was reduced to one Member of Parliament (MP). Boundaries According to the 1881 census, the borough of Bridgnorth comprised the parishes of Quatford, part of Quatt, St. Leonard and St Mary (in Bridgnorth town), Astley Abbotts, Eardingdon, Oldbury, Romsley and Tasley. This was smaller than the municipal borough, which only contained the first four. William Whitmore (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant General William Whitmore (14 May 1714 – 22 July 1771) was a British Army officer and Member of Parliament (MP). He was the son of William Whitmore, MP of Lower Slaughter, Gloucestershire. He joined the Army, reaching the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1760. in 1755 he was ordered to raise a new regiment, originally to be called the 55th Foot, but subsequently named the 53rd Foot. After the regiment was formed he was given its colonelcy, prior to the regiment sailing to Gibraltar for garrison duties. In 1758 he was transferred as colonel to the 9th Regiment of Foot, a commission he held until his death. He was Member of Parliament for Bridgnorth from 1741 to 1747 and from 1754 to 1771. He was made Warden of the Mint from 1766 to his death in 1771. He died unmarried, but left a son and 2 daughters. References * J. B. William Elliott Whitmore
William Elliott Whitmore (born May 11, 1978) is an American blues, country, folk singer and musician. He plays roots-folk music that is often inspired by his life on his family farm in the hills of southeastern Iowa. Early life and education Whitmore grew up on a 160-acre horse farm in Lee County, Iowa, not far outside of Keokuk, Iowa. His parents, Elyse Whitmore (née Tweedy) and Harold Whitmore, were farmers, and the farm had been in his family since his third great grandfather, who was an immigrant from Ireland. After his parents died, he converted the farm to row crops, which he leases to a neighboring farmer so he can be on the road to perform. He has an older brother and sister. While he was growing up, the family was musical, with his dad playing the guitar, his mother playing the accordion and piano, and both his paternal and maternal grandfathers playing the banjo. William Henry Whitmore
William Henry Whitmore (September 6, 1836 – June 14, 1900) was a Boston businessman, politician and genealogist. Biography William Henry Whitmore was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on September 6, 1836. He was the son of a Boston merchant, and was educated in Boston's public schools. He devoted the leisure from his business life to antiquarian research and authorship. For eight years, he was a member of the Boston Common Council, of which he became president in 1879, and he was a trustee of the Boston Public Library from 1885 to 1888. The degree of AM was conferred on him by Harvard and Williams in 1867. About 1868 he was one of the patentees of a machine for making sugar cubes, and in 1882 he patented one for making hyposulphite of soda. His "Ancestral Tablets" (Boston, 1868) was an invention for genealogists, being a set of pages cut and arranged to admit the insertion of a pedigree in a condensed form.
