William Welch (cricketer, Born 1911)
William Mark Welch (12 August 1911 – 25 May 1940) was an Australian first-class cricketer and British Army officer. He played first-class cricket on four occasions for the Free Foresters, before serving in the Second World War, during which he was killed in action at the Siege of Calais in May 1940. Life and military service The son of William Alfred Welch and Jessie Isabella Welch (nΓ©e Mark), he was born at Brisbane. He was sent to England to be educated, where he attended Harrow School. While at Harrow he was a cadet and after leaving he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Artists Rifles in May 1933. He made his debut in first-class cricket for the Free Foresters against Cambridge University at Fenner's in 1935. On debut he took figures of 5 for 43 in the Cambridge first-innings. William Welch II is the former Chief of the Public Integrity Section of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). Welch is noted chiefly for his role in the prosecution of former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens and the prosecution of U.S. intelligence community whistleblowers for alleged leaks to the press. Welch resigned on April 16, 2012, amid allegations that the DOJ Public Integrity Section had purposefully hid exculpatory evidence in the case against Stevens. Education Welch graduated from Princeton University in 1985, and from the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago in 1988. Role in Department of Justice Welch spent much of his career in U.S. Department of Justice service. Wilton Welch (born c. 1884 as William Harry Welch or William Harrie Welch) was an Australian comic actor and dramatist, husband and collaborator of Louise Carbasse, best known as Louise Lovely. History Welch was born in Cooma, New South Wales, the fourth son of Eleanor F. Welch (died 1937) and Charles Frederick Welch (died 1922), auctioneer and mayor of Cooma. Two of his brothers enlisted with the First AIF during World War I: Frank Carey Welch (c. 1896 – 26 October 1918) and Septimus Welch (c. September 1890 – 17 October 1918); who were killed within a fortnight of each other. Welch first trod the professional stage in comic parts with the Maggie Moore Company in 1903. William Leonard Welch (born 2 April 1972) is an English Industrial designer. William is the son of the late post-war Industrial Designer Robert Radford Welch (21 May 1929 – 15 March 2000). In 2004 Welch became a Fellow of Chartered Society of Designs. In 2007 Welch was invited to become Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts and as a Freeman, holds a key to the city of London.
