William Tierney Robarts
William Tierney Robarts (1786 - 9 December 1820 in London) was a British politician and businessman. He was the youngest son of Abraham Robarts and his wife Sabine (née Tierney). He grew up with three brothers, including Abraham Wildey Robarts and George James Robarts, and three sisters. The politician George Tierney George Tierney PC (20 March 1761 – 25 January 1830) was an Irish Whig politician. For much of his career he was in opposition to the governments of William Pitt and Lord Liverpool. From 1818 to 1821 he was Leader of the Opposition in the H ... was his uncle. Robarts was a London entrepreneur and from 1810, a director of the Bank of England. On 26 February 1818 he was elected to the House of Commons in the constituency of St. Albans, where he remained until his death. Abraham Robarts (MP For Worcester)
Abraham Robarts (1745–1816) was an English banker and politician. He was a factor in the West Indies trade, and a director of the East India Company. Life Early in his career he was a partner with James Tierney in the firm of Tierney, Lilly and Robarts, Spanish merchants. He became a Director of the Royal Exchange Insurance Company from 1781 to 1786 and then served as a director of the East India Company 6 times between 1786 and 1815, normally for three years each time. In 1792 he became a city banker in partnership with Sir William Curtis in the firm of Robarts, Curtis, Were, Hornyold and Berwick, of Cornhill. Robarts went into politics first in 1784, as an unsuccessful candidate in . He established himself as Member of Parliament at in 1796, when his local banking associate Edmund Lechmere (1747–1798) got into financial difficulties and had to give up the seat. Abraham Wildey Robarts
Abraham Wildey Robarts (1779–1858), of Hill Street, Berkeley Square, Middlesex, was an English politician and banker. Life From a political family, he was the son of Abraham Roberts and his wife Sabine Tierney, sister of George Tierney; and brother of George James Robarts and William Tierney Robarts. In early life he was a writer for the East India Company in Canton. He became a director of the East India Company, also a partner in the bank Robarts & Curtis, and worked as a West Indies factor. Robarts was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of the United Kingdom for Maidstone from 1818 to 1837. In 1825 he was a director of the New Zealand Company, a venture chaired by the wealthy John George Lambton, Whig MP (and later 1st Earl of Durham), that made the first attempt to colonise New Zealand. George Tierney
George Tierney PC (20 March 1761 – 25 January 1830) was an Irish Whig politician. For much of his career he was in opposition to the governments of William Pitt and Lord Liverpool. Background and education Born in Gibraltar, Tierney was the son of Thomas Tierney, a wealthy Irish merchant of London, who was living in Gibraltar as prize agent. He was sent to Eton and Peterhouse, Cambridge, where he took the degree of Law in 1784. He was called to the bar from Lincoln's Inn in the same year, but abandoned law and plunged into politics. On 10 July 1789 he married Anna Maria Miller of Stapleton in Gloucestershire; she died in 1844.
