William Thomas Stewart
William Thomas Stewart (October 18, 1853 – August 21, 1935) was mayor of Kanab, Utah, U.S., from 1889–91, and a Representative to the Utah Territorial Legislature in 1887 and 1889. The son of Levi Stewart and Margery (Wilkerson) Stewart, he was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He moved to Kanab, Utah in 1870 when his father was called by Brigham Young to create a new settlement there. A few months later his mother and several of his siblings were killed in a fire. He married Rachel Tamar Hamblin, daughter of Jacob Hamblin, in 1873. He became a polygamist in 1879 when he married Fannie Maria Little. He took a third wife, Mary Udall in 1880. She was the sister of David King Udall who was already married to William's sister Eliza Stewart. The Territory of Utah was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from September 9, 1850, until January 4, 1896, when the final extent of the territory was admitted to the Union as the State of Utah, the 45th state. At its creation, the Territory of Utah included all of the present-day State of Utah, most of the present-day state of Nevada save for Southern Nevada (including Las Vegas), much of present-day western Colorado, and the extreme southwest corner of present-day Wyoming. The Udall family is a U.S. political family rooted in the American West. Its role in politics spans over 100 years and four generations. Udall politicians have been elected from four different states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oregon. If viewed as a combined entity, the Udall-Hunt-Lee family has been elected from six states: Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, and Utah. Eliza Stewart Udall
Eliza Luella "Ella" Stewart Udall (May 21, 1855 – May 28, 1937), was an American telegraphist and entrepreneur. Recruited by Brigham Young in 1870 and stationed at the Deseret Telegraph Company office in Pipe Spring in 1871, Udall was the first telegraph operator in Arizona Territory. A daughter of Mormon pioneers Margery Wilkerson Stewart and Levi Stewart, Udall was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. As part of the church's historical practice of polygamy, she was the first wife of David King Udall and co-wife of Ida Hunt Udall and later Mary Ann Linton Morgan. Udall also ran a successful ice cream parlor in St. Johns, Arizona and for a time managed the Apache Hotel in Holbrook, Arizona. Several of Udall's descendants went on to have influential political careers as members of the Udall family. Alamo, Nevada
Alamo is an unincorporated town in Lincoln County, Nevada, United States, about north of Las Vegas along U.S. Route 93. Its elevation is . As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,080. History A post office has been in operation at Alamo since 1905. The community was named in commemoration of the Battle of the Alamo. A large share of the first settlers were Mormons. Alamo banned alcohol sales due to the religious roots and principles of the settlers. Many of the residents are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and their faith "preaches abstinence from alcohol". In 2022, the town board proposed allowing alcohol sales in gas stations and supermarkets but continue to restrict bars. Geography Alamo lies in the Pahranagat Valley. David King Udall, Sr. (September 7, 1851 – February 18, 1938) was an American politician who was a representative to the Arizona Territory, Arizona Territorial Legislature and the founder of the Udall family, Udall political family. Childhood years David King Udall was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents, David Udall and Eliza King, had immigration, immigrated to the United States from England earlier in the year. In 1852 they followed the Mormon Trail to Utah. They settled in Nephi, Utah. Udall spent his childhood farming.
