William Thomas Kelly
William Thomas Kelly (21 June 1874 – 13 March 1944) was a British Labour politician. Kelly was active in the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, serving on its Executive Council from 1903 until 1913, and as chair of its Manchester branch. He then found work as a London organiser for the Workers' Union, where his skill at arbitration was recognised. In 1916, the union established an Arbitration Department, headed by Kelly. Kelly was a supporter of the Labour Party, for which he stood unsuccessfully in Yeovil in 1918, 1922, and twice in 1923. In 1924, he instead contested Rochdale in 1924, for which he was elected, serving until 1931, when he was defeated. Labour Party (UK)
The Labour Party is a political party in the United Kingdom that has been described as an alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists and trade unionists. The Labour Party sits on the centre-left of the political spectrum. In all general elections since 1922, Labour has been either the governing party or the Official Opposition. There have been six Labour prime ministers and thirteen Labour ministries. The party holds the annual Labour Party Conference, at which party policy is formulated. The party was founded in 1900, having grown out of the trade union movement and socialist parties of the 19th century. William Harold Hutchinson
William Harold Hutchinson (25 April 1878''1939 England and Wales Register'' – 19 May 1965) was a British people, British trade unionist and Labour Party (UK), Labour Party activist. Educated to secondary school level, Hutchinson became active in the Amalgamated Society of Engineers (UK), Amalgamated Society of Engineers, and was first elected to its Executive Council in 1913. Alfred Golightly
Alfred William Golightly (21 October 1857 – 18 March 1948) was a British trade unionist and co-operative activist. Born in Lincoln, Golightly grew up in Peterborough, and attended the Great Northern Railway Company's British School. He completed an engineering apprenticeship on the railways, and became a fitter in Sheffield, joining the Amalgamated Society of Engineers (ASE) in 1878.H. F.
