Lord William Stuart
Captain Lord William Stuart (18 November 1778 – 25 July 1814), was a British naval commander and Tory politician. Early life Stuart was the fifth son of John Stuart, 1st Marquess of Bute, son of Prime Minister John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute. His mother was the Hon. Charlotte Jane, daughter of Herbert Windsor, 2nd Viscount Windsor. He served in the Royal Navy and achieved the rank of captain. In 1802 he was returned to Parliament for Cardiff, succeeding his elder brother Lord Evelyn Stuart, a seat he held until his death twelve years later. Personal life Stuart married the Hon. Georgiana, daughter of Cornwallis Maude, 1st Viscount Hawarden, in 1806. They had one daughter, Georgiana, who died unmarried in 1833. His wife died in August 1807. Stuart never remarried and died in July 1814, aged only 35. William James Stuart CBE PRCSE FRSE (1873-1958) was a 20th-century Scottish surgeon who served as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh from 1937 to 1939. He was affectionately known as Pussy Stuart. Life He was born the son of Rev John Stuart DD (1816-1886) minister of St Andrews parish in Edinburgh (and Chaplain in Ordinary to Queen Victoria), and his wife, Jessie Duncan, daughter of Dr John Duncan (an eminent surgeon and founder of the medical chemical company Duncan & Flockhart). The family lived at 7 Northumberland Street, a large terraced Georgian townhouse in Edinburgh's Second New Town. He was educated at Edinburgh Academy close to his family home, then studied Medicine at Edinburgh University graduating MB ChB in 1899. William Corwin Stuart
William Corwin Stuart (April 28, 1920 – August 12, 2010) was an American attorney, politician, and jurist who served as a justice of the Iowa Supreme Court, and United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. Early life and education Born in Knoxville, Iowa, Stuart received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1941, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1942. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Naval Air Corps during World War II, serving from 1943 to 1945. Career Stuart operated a private legal practice in Chariton, Iowa, from 1946 to 1962, serving as a city attorney of Chariton from 1947 to 1949. He was a member of the Iowa Senate from 1953 to 1961. William James Stuart of Drumaspil (14 April 1831 – 8 July 1914) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and gentleman. Early life Stuart was born on 14 April 1831 in Bunchara Castle, County Donegal, the son of Hamilton Stuart of Drumaspil, County Tyrone and Jane Wilhelmina Thornton-Todd, daughter of William Thornton-Todd of Bunchara Castle. The Stuarts of Drumaspil descend in unbroken, patrilineal succession from Robert II of Scotland, through his younger son, Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, through the Stewarts of Avandale and Ochiltree, through Andrew Stuart, 1st Baron Castle Stuart and his younger son Robert Stewart, of Irry. Lieutenant-General William Stuart (1778–1837) C.B. was a British Army officer who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. Biography William Stuart was born in 1778. He was the third son of Alexander Stuart, 10th Lord Blantyre and Catharine, eldest daughter and heiress of Patrick Lindsay of Eaglescairnie Haddingtonshire. Stuart was appointed ensign in the 1st Guards in 1794, a lieutenant and captain in 1797. In 1798 he served in Ireland during the Rebellion with the 3rd battalion. In 1799 he accompanied the Battalion in the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland, and was present in the actions of the 27 August, on 10, 19 September and 2 October. In July 1806 he went to Sicily, and returned in January 1808. In 1807 be attained the rank of Captain and Lieutenant-Colonel. In 1809 he served in the expedition to Walcheren.
